Looks pretty spiffy. I've always liked the way the MC-E looks the best of all Cree's emitters, however impractical it may be for focused applications, but you've done a good job of dressing up that XP-G. Does the ridged brass ring introduce any beam artifacts?

No, there is no effect from that brass ring. There is only a smooth flood coming from the emitter. It is fun to look at it when it is on very low because the brass adds to the warm color and makes it look like it is glowing around the emitter.
 
That looks really nice Dave! Is there a protective lens covering the flood assembly to protect the XP-G from damage?

The Tri-V2 flood emitter is as it was with the Tri-V, no lens over the emitter. This emitter is much smaller than the MC-E and it sets much farther into the front of the light. It is also surrounded by the brass. You can't touch it with your finger, you would need something pointy to touch it.

I gave thought to covering the emitter but in the end, decided it was in keeping with the expression of the original Tri-V to go commando. :devil:

Say I'd cover the emitter with noralnd glue - will it protect it better in any way?

Not only would the emitter get too hot under that Norland, I expect some degree of shrinkage with Norland, too. I think that Norland, applied direcly to that bubble covering the LED Phospher, would trap so much heat, that it would severely shorten the LED lifespan. IMHO YMMV

I am still not going to give any dates but the heads and flood emitter parts are now running in production. That will not take too long and then only a few internal parts like the aspheric shield and the reflector thermal conduit are left to be made.

The 007 XM-L is nearing completion too and will certainly be the first to hit the street.

I also will purchase one of these (which is financially insane) but I just can't miss out this time! Please include me in any sale!

PS: Sorry to everyone who like me is awaiting new information, I waited till someone else bumped in order to bump myself :P
 
There are going to be a good number of lights.

Mike is nearly done with the heads. Only parts left to make are a couple smaller internal parts and some screws.

I have not ordered the emitters yet but soon. Best to wait to the end for that.
