Trilux driver question

Hi,

I want to make a 2D Ubin trilx maglite running off alkaline cells (this is a necesity as it is a gift for a non-flashaholic). The plan is to wire the LEDs in parallel and use a single regulator board mounted to the switch. i reckon the wizard 937 is the best option, but i'm not sure.
What are your thoughts?

You'd need a converter board that can handle high input current in that configuration - 3A ballpark. (Shark converter ?)
Not sure how 2 D cell Alkalines will react to that kind of load.

Also - at high current draw the battery voltage will probably drop out of the converter boards operating range.

I don't think wiring in parallel would work here....

Could your non-flashaholic friend cope with commony available Ni-Mh re-chargeable AA batteries?

My suggestion would be to to run an 8AA to 2D battery adapter Click Here and run yor luxeons in series with the wizard.

A 6AA to 2D would be a good idea too with a step-up board....Something like a Fatman, or a Bad-Boy.

Could use alkalines in this if you want - but could start to get expensive with multiple cells at a time.
