Newly Enlightened
Just wanted to let others know about a mod I did a few days ago, and how well it is working out. The build consists of:
solarforce L2 host with single 123 extension
LED supply triple R5 20mm star
copper heatsink machined from 3/4 round stock
3 16340 AW lifepo4 3.2 volt batteries
I used 18 gauge wire and ran it through the center of the heatsink and all the way to the tip of the spring where it touches the battery. I also ran a wore soldered to the tip of the tailcap spring to the center bar and treated the switch with deoxit to get as little resistance as possible. I also necked the heatsink down at the bottom and made it very deep with a short spring for extra mass since I had plenty of length to fit the batteries.
The light pulls over 1.4 amps with batteries hot off the charger, and settles in at just over 1.3 amps after 10 seconds or so. Ran the light for 9 minutes and never dropped below 1.24 amps.
These batteries seem to have a very flat discharge curve, and work great for this application. Has a very good output and snow white tint. Significantly brighter than my moddoo triple xpe (as it should be).
Next project is a 12 xpg mag direct drive off of 3 26500 lifepo4 cells.
