What is a tritium sphere and what do you use one for?
Its one unit of tritium. You use it for tritaneous purposes. The plural is tritiii.

Kidding… they are little glass glowing vials. You glue them to things you want to glow for several years straight. Uses include firearm night sights and watch faces, but they're more commonly using rod/pill shaped vials. The spheres are like hen's teeth.

The normal tritium vials are used i.e. in clocks. I carry a Luminox clock with tritium. This vials are very small. I do not know if there are use cases for large vials for military purpose? My guess is that there is no real high demand for larger tritium vials or spheres.

The larger spheres contain a higher amount of tritium gas, and at least in Europe I think that is the problem. There are somehow limitations in activity or amount of radioactive substances.
