Howdy,

I was hoping yall could recommend me a nice flashlight for in my pickup. Thanks. Currently i have a big heavy mag lite but I am looking for something lighter and smaller.

Thank you

1) How would you prefer to purchase the light?

Internet

2) Budget: An easy question, but you may change your mind after answering the rest! :-)

Less Than 150

3) Format:

I want a flashlight.

4) Flashlight-specific format/size:

I don’t care.

5) Emitter/Light source:

LED (known for efficiency, longevity, and compactness)

6) Manufacturer:

I want to buy a light from a traditional mass producing manufacturer that is ready to go out of the box.

7) What battery type do you want to use?

_I intend to use lithium primary batteries (CR123, CR2, Energizer Advanced/Ultimate Lithium AA/AAA)

8) How much genuine out the front (OTF) light do you want/need? Sometimes you can have too much light (trying to read up close up with a 100 lumen light is impossible).

I want to walk around an unlit rural area (50-150 lumens).

9) Throw vs. Flood: At what distance will you be most likely to use this light? Select all that apply.

Used in emergency around a truck but also to investigate things around the farm so could be long distance or short.

10) Runtime: Not over-inflated manufacturer runtime claims, but usable brightness measured from first activation to 50% with new batteries (Measured on maximum output).

____90-120 minutes (Runtime is moderately important, but still not critical)

11) Durability/Usage: Generally the old phrase “you get what you pay for” is very accurate for flashlights.

____Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box).

12) Switch Type and location (choose all that apply):

____I don’t know.

13) User Interface (UI) and mode selection. Select all that apply.

Strobe with high and low light levels

14)Material/Finish/Coating

____I don’t care.

15) Special Needs/extras: Is there anything else you want or need that hasn't been mentioned? Select any below.

Dozens will sort you out, look at the reviews on You Tube, type in words like Fenix-Eagletac-Nitecore just for starters.

What's the truck?

I'm thinking it's probably an American made truck so, in stated budget range, Surefire. The "E-series" are proven performers. I've been carrying a Surefire E2D for decades. For ranch work the E2L deserves a look. I like that it has an extra long clip that is designed such that the light can easily be attached to the brim of hat. Nice touch.

Sounds like you want a 1*18650 R5, XML or G2 based flashlight. From what you have here any of the OSTS lights would be great, just take a pick of the price you are willing to pay, and the amount of throw/flood. Others that are nice are the Thrunite TN11S, TN11, TN12, and T30. The Sunwayman T20cs is nice, but a little pricey. The Black Shadow Fire is very nice, my favorite out of all of these, but it is a bit pricey. The Black Shadow Padme is a little bit cheaper with a nice magnetic control ring UI. Your price range is a little wide for anything in particular and since you didn't really state any specifics you should just take a look at these and see what you like. These are some pretty amazing lights, in addition to these there are numerous others that you will find out there that are great. You should probably go big on the first one and not have to worry about it for a while. The Panasonic NCR18650A or NCR18650B based batteries are some of the best. The Thrunite T10 is a great little light that uses 1 AA and is around 100lm on high.

Rayovac indestructible 100 lumen is a very good light. 15 bucks at Home Depot. It's good enough that I've bought 3. One for home and two as gifts. Runs on 2 aa's. Very long runtime. Using eneloop batteries and haven't noticed dimming in 2 weeks with lots of use.
