Just wondering if the trustfire brand or any other brands at tmart.com are any good or reputable? Prices there seem too good to be true! Thanks! Dave.
 
Early on in my flashlight hobby I purchased several Trustfire lights. Out of the several, one had drop-in problems. I ordered another drop in from China and the light is still working fine. When you buy the less expensive brands you either win the lottery or you don't. If you are willing to mod, solder, reword the components you will do fine. If you are not comfortable doing that but more expensive mainstream lights.
 
Prices are better elsewhere. I got the Trustfire Z1 for about $9 cheaper from a popular web store in china known for very slow shipping.

Wow - no - I'm just a regular dude. Thought I was the only one I knew that had a thing for flashlights, but after finding this forum I know I'm not alone!!

Just lurked around here for a few days after looking for some reviews of a light I recently purchased on a whim - a $24 "Blueline" by Nebo. Kind of like it for a single AA light - but noticed that brand doesn't really make the cut on this forum. So now I'm looking for the "next" thing. I think I'm hooked, and finding this forum will certainly enable me more.

So, after reading a lot of posts here, I was looking at that tmart site and it seemed those lights there offered you more lumens for your dollar - but seeing as my experience pales in comparison to those here, I'd certainly defer to your advice if people here advised me to stay away from the lesser known or cheaper brands or sites like tmart. I found that site from a link to it in someone else's post here about trustfire lights - never heard of them before that.

Anyways, just kickin' the tires - not really sure what I want for my next light. I'm kind of really diggin' that that Olight S10 Baton - the magnetic end combined with the moonlight mode could be very useful, in addition to the excellent lums. That light seems extremely practical to me.

I'll stick around here and learn from you guys - thanks!

well,Dave, trustfire has a place in the market.
weather or not its any good depends on an individuals opinion of price vs quality and reliability.
However some of the bodys can be modded with quality tailcaps and respected drop-in modules.
Therefore if one breaks down on you than a total loss can be overted. At a cost.This may be the reason for spending a little more per light and living with fewer lights lying about.

Thanks fishndad. The more I think about it I should probably stick with a known brand until I become more "enlightened". I'm already up to my eyebrows with golf and saxophone equipment, a minor watch collection...and now...flashlights??
 
lol, i feel ya, seems like hobies come and go and when you look back at life its rewarding to have things you can still be proud of.
There is nothing like a great old set of clubs with new shafts and grips on them.
Just a sugestion though look at the shiningbeam caveman or blaze.
I personally think they offer some of the finest quality for the money.

If higher lumens and price point are of concern to you, there are a lot of good brand name lights sold at the CPF market place in the WTS section. Many people buy a nice light that they just do not use and end up selling it for less than they paid for it. Some lights are in new condition too. There is also a section in the CPF marketplace where they list dealers who give discounts to CPF members. If you didn't already know, check it out.
 
Just curious.. what causes most of the cheapo chinese made lights to fail or stuff up? Poor soldering? Shoddy workmanship? Next to no QC? I mean sometimes it just lands at your door DOA after a 3 week wait, other times it breaks within an hour, or a month, or if your lucky six months to a year. As someone mentioned it can be a lottery with these "free shipping" gift packages jammed into the mailbox. They can be an ok backup light if your main one stuffs up or something like that.
 
+1 on the Shiningbeam Blaze. Great price right now, and the quality is amazing. Fast shipping too.

All lights/electronics will have issues from time to time. Some of what you buy from the China sites is cheap knock-off, others are good. Part of the problem is the lack of customer service. I have had decent luck with budget lights so far, but the often taken path of new flashaholics (myself included) is to load up on budget lights first, then get nicer ones later.

My budget lights haven't had weak solder joints, but have had loose tailcaps (causing flickering) and non-centered LEDs. I think there's a troubleshooting sticky in the budget forum page about troubleshooting "cheap" lights. Well worth the read as well.

The good part of that is you can learn a lot about what you actually need without spending a lot per light. The bad part is you have a big pile of lights you don't really want to rely on.

My advice for budget purchases: Sipik SK68 and Trustfire Z1 were worth it for me. Good construction, reasonable output, good learning opportunities. What I acutally use the most however is my Shiningbeam Blaze, Thrunite Ti, and Fenix (E01 and E05). I think my Thrunite T10 will probably start seeing some more usage as well. The Sipik and Trustfire have been moved to vehicle lights and toolbox lights.

fishndad - thanks for the tips. Yep - I'm hooked, just ordered the shiningbeam blaze based on your recommendation and the reviews here - not to mention the excellent closeout price! I'm very excited...my first real light!

Now that I've got the Shiningbeam as my "big" light, here's the others I've been thinkin' about. I still think I'm diggin' that Olight S10 Baton the most...

I have a Trustfire SSC P7. It's pretty good for the price, although there is a little bit of battery rattle. Tint looks to be between 4000k-5000k, a nice pure white, and it has a decent amount of throw. My EDC though is a Fenix PD30, small enough to be pocketable and bright enough to be surprising for it's size.

I have the pc10 its a great little light.
Butt yes Butt the switch feels soft and its kind of cheap.
However its very simple to upgrade if and when it starts to fail.
But you should get the Baton 1st.Always go with your first choice.
 
They are ok fore the price. You get a lot of light for the money, quality of alloy, anodizing, and button you get what you pay for.
