DX just listed two new "protected" 18650 cells named Trustfire. The blue cells are only 66mm long, have a label stating 2500 mAH, and have over- charge/discharge protection. Oddly, they are cheaper than the gray 2400 mAH cells. The latter are now a little more expensive than the Ultrafire protected 18650 cells, they are 67 mm long, and the label states that they have over- charge/discharge AND shortcircuit protection. Both cells look like they have a + nipple like the protected Ultrafire cells. The logo suggests that maybe these are Ultrafire/Surefire products. Maybe I'll have to buy a pair of each to clarify the differences between the two new batteries.

They seem the same as Ultrafires to me.
As for the price discrepancy I just posted on the 2500mah's page, hopefully it'll be explained. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the producer took the 2200mah cells, slapped a "2500mah" sticker on them and sold them at the same price.

If you can trust rumors, a relative of the UltraFire manager reported that they make these cells. What should we make of the added line, "shortcircuit protection?"

I thought all protected cells had short circuit protection. My cheapo 3.7v RCR123s certainly do (found it out the hard way)...
