I am looking at getting a budget EDC and was wondering if any of you F23 owners out there have used it as such and what your thoughts were on it. I want a multi-mode EDC as I like the long battery life of a low setting but want to have the ability to crank it when needed. I am aware of the ITP A3 but I did not want to spend quite that much and I wanted something a little more unique looking.

Welcome to CPF! The F23 is a good choice. I EDC the iTP A3 because it is shorter and lighter and doesn't show scratches nearly as much (in the same pocket as my keys). If you don't mind the scratches, the F23 will work fine.

The Low is maybe 10% of High, so it is only good for a few feet when it is fairly dark, but should last maybe 3-4 hours instead of 30-40 minutes on High (with a AAA NiMH battery).

I am on my third one because I keep giving mine away to friends. I have a longer review of this light here:

I love this light and I even gave my brother one, Its high is bright and the light looks really expensive and durable. I even EDC one for a month before switching to QUark MiNi AA and ITP A3 SS.:grin2:
The only downside is the runtime, 20 mins on high.:candle:

I was just checking out the review. For both of you, you would then say that light output on high is about the same as the ITP A3 and the Fenix L1D? How about against the Quark Mini AA or some other budget lights? Anyone else have a similar or different experience?

One of Mine is brighter than the MiNi AA. The problem from DX lights is the inconsistencies. F23 is really bright, just make sure to bring extra batteries.

Used my F23 as EDC when I forgot to pick up my usual Akoray K-106. No problems at all with the Trustfire (other than being very careful not to scratch that lovely SS finish!), very good battery life if you make use of the low mode, and despite the protruding switch it never got activated accidentally. It's a little heavier than most 1xAAA lights, didn't bother me but just worth bearing in mind.

They're all pretty close on NiMH batteries. The F23 certainly doesn't take a back seat to the other two, maybe barely brighter than the A3 and a hair under the L1D. With a lithium-ion battery they are probably 50% brighter. The bin for these lights are Q5 and R2 which are just one notch apart while the Quark Mini is an R5 and should give off more light.
