is the miltary version any better or worst then regeler verion.?also is the x1 a good light there both on sale at
country i thought about picking them up maybe geting dad one to

The regular Ultra comes with a lanyard and pocket clip, which are useful, and also comes in nice packaging, which looks a bit better as a gift. The Ultra-G has hard anodize which is more durable, but you just get the light in a plastic bag, no lanyard, no clip, no nice package.

The X1 has a very narrow beam which most people don't like that much. Other than that it's a very well made light.

I've only seen one Ultra G. Compared it to my Ultra and the Ultra G was whiter and had a better beam. No formal testing, just shoot it at a wall and look. Remember the G does not come with lanyard or clip.

Countycomm CPF special Ultra-G for $14.50, BatteryStation CPF special Ultra $15.00. For .50 cents you get lanyard and clip if those are important to you. I was ordering some (40) $1.00 pocket lights from Countycomm so I added an Ultra-G, which got me free shipping (orders over $50.00).

I like the Ultra-G, don't have a regular Ultra to compare it to. But other threads have indicated there really is no difference. Luck of the draw as far as how white the light will be.

raggie, you'll like either one man (I think your dad will too). Kind of big for a keychain, but very pocketable. And you'll be surprised at how often you will use it too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My Ultra's beam is very slightly more greenish than that of my Ultra-G. Just by eyeballing the two side-to-side, they appear to generate approximately the same amount of light.
But my sample size of 1 each is too small to really know the average light output of the two.

i need to order stuff from both places.cant pass them 1 dollor key chains up at country. i kinda like the g version of the ultra cause its miltary. also need another shortwave radio mine was like way off when ya tuned it like on fm 103 was at 95. but i got mine at biglots. also ned some 123.s pretty badly.aint sure if i want the x1 seems to me it will be like a laser beam

Mike, I don't see any link to Batterystation CPF Special Ultra. I would like to check it out too. I am newbie on this Form. Thanks

I have an Ultra G and the NSN number on it just gives it the 'cool factor'. I love it... By the way, did you guys know that the lanyard that comes with the Infinity/Ultra has some sort of flourescent threads intertwined in it? Looks pretty cool at night! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I like my ultra-g the anodizing has put up with 6 months of living with small change.

Does anyone make a glow in the dark lanyard?

I knew the original CMG Infinity (early 2000) had fluorescent fibers in its lanyard, but I didn't realise the Infinity Ultra has GITD fibers in its lanyard - until I shined a NUV light at it and then shut the light off. The fibers glowed for at least half a minute...if one's eyes were dark adapted, that glow could be visible for a longer period.

Darn, what I meant to say was luminous, not flourescent... but you get the gist... Craig did at least... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not sure which version is my lanyard, but its got thin 'strips' of a different coloured (light green or white I think) thread intertwined all over the lanyard, but looks pretty much the same as the one shown in the pic above attached to an Infinity.

The GITD stuff in the Infinity lanyards is pretty unimpressive and I wouldn't worry about it. Yeah there's some threads running through the nylon with GITD stuff in them, that shows up as very faint glowing dots a for a while after you expose it. I have an Infinity next to my bed so maybe I'll give the lanyard a shot of UV after I'm dark adapted, and see how long the glowing lasts, but don't expect much from it. If you want to find your Infinity in the dark, put a tritium marker into it or hang a glowring off the lanyard hole or something.
