I thought I was just a guy who had a hard time passing a flashlight in a store and not buying it. Turns out I'm not even close to alone! I had no idea there was entire forums dedicated to the collection, modification, discussion and obsession of flashlights. "My name's Rob, and I'm- apparently- a flashaholic."...Cool.

My Wife bought me an Ultrafire c8. Some sites say it has 'memory mode' and some say nothing about it. I'm wondering if it does and mine's broken or it doesn't and mine's a pain in the "Tailcap", so to speak.

When I fully depress the tailcap switch it comes on...so far, so good. Half push when light is on will advance to next mode...so far, so good. Turn it off and next time I turn it on it's in the next mode (e.g. If I turn it off while it's in 'medium' mode when I turn it on again it's in 'low.'). English is my native language and that isn't what 'memory' means...Anyone know if mine's broken, or just annoying?

That's called "next mode memory" and yes, it's annoying. I just got a Trustfire Z8, an otherwise really nice light (especially for the $12 I paid for it) that has that, er, feature.

(And I was also surprised to find there are many people who enjoy this rather strange hobby.)

Hey Thanks. All things considered it really is an amazing 'light. Two 4000 mAh batts, charger and flashlight for around thirty bucks can't be beat to make the guys on the International Space Station squint. Maybe I'll start looking at one of those (Fenix, I think) ones that has on/ off on the tail and a side switch for mode.

Wow where did you get them?!? The best I know are 3400mAH 18650's.

And I also have aan C8 I really love it, my memory is just working fine.
What kind of reflector do you got? I have a strange kind, it starts small and somewhere on the half of the reflector it's going from small to big and then just as a normal reflector to the end.
Something like this:

Code:
\_ _/
  \ /
It has some great throw if I compare it to my ultrafire WF-501B, but I dont have an other flashlight to compare against.

The reflector on mine is just a smooth cone shape. The memory on mine works- apparently- like it's supposed to. It just didn't really make sense to me that a half press or a full press does exactly the same thing. Well, it STILL doesn't make sense but at least I know my light's not broken. The batteries and Rapid Charger were ordered by my wife through dx.com. Cheap, too. Eighteen'ish dollars Canadian.
