my laser... seems to be stable when new batteries are in (for awhile). But the batteries run out wuick.. and when i first turn it on, its birght then dims quickly.. everytime i do this it's the same. Some tiesm the power will jump back up after dimming.. Is this the result of low batteries? Will energizer e2s fix this?

I ASSUME you are talking about the Envee - take a short vid of the issue, and send to Lucent, possibly ? May be a mode shift - how does the dimming affect the burning ability, etc ? COULD be bad batts, too - partially dead cells can produce that effect, I had the same issue with my Aries until I swapped out that batts....most lasers will peak within moments of powering up, but the change shouldn't really be too obvious. Take a small vid and post so I can see ?

The 120mW EnVee was not designed to really be 120mW. Its a freak unit you bought so there is a chance you might have to duty cycle it a little.

i'm not going to send it back, when i get home ill take a video of it.. since it doesnt do it much with relatively new batteries, i think it must be that.. ill try it with e2s ater.

Hey Madz any chance of perhaps a 150mw unit offered in the future?

Sounds like a battery problem and alkaline batteries may not meet the needs of your device. I had a similar problem with a leadlight I modded up to 55 mW and JKaiser (and others) pointed me down the right path...

I've read that sometimes the NiMH can maintain stable power for longer. Just make sure that whatever you buy won't overload the circuit - max voltage should be roughly 1.2 - 1.5 V for all AA batteries right?

You may want to try NiMH batteries with the highest mAh you can find - stable runtime might be increased. (you're outputting a lot of mW on AA batteries - 120 mW is incredible... )

Here's one source:

I just bought some from them today... Steve

NiMHs will give even less brightness and runtime than Alkalines. I'd recommend Energizer E2's. They give around three times as much runtime as Alkalines.

I figured it out.. It was as Madz said.. with the 120mw you should stick to a duty cycle.. it only dims after it heats up a little.. if i let it cool down.. It's fine.. thanks guys!! P.S. i have videos being uploaded now.. go look!
