Use your Samsung Note 3 as "LightMeter" and "CCT Meter"

Hi Friends,

I was playing with my Note3 and googling for secret codes and found that *#0*# giving ServiceTest menu and see that a Light Sensor giving Lux values and CCT values then try it and get an accurate results with it.

Used RUSTU R23S 3xCree XM-L Light.
+got 3000lux @2m so 12.000lux @1m
+got 6000K CCT

Yes compared with my lightmeter and accurate results.
And compared CCT with my other lights and see only ~300K CCT up/down only.

I think it's on most samsung phones. It's there on my S2 but accuracy, I don't know. The S2 only has LUX and a ceiling bounce gives much higher readings than my light meter. Need a third light meter ...

It's very cool that you can do that. I am a little jealous since I have no light meter or smart phone. I have a few lights that I would love to get measurements of. Thanks for sharing this info.

Thanks for reminding me, I've been meaning to download a free lux meter app into my iPhone. Just tried one out as a lumen meter using the ambient bounce method (between two walls in a narrow hallway) and found it wasn't as accurate as using my DSLR, which I expected, but it was better than I thought it would be and certainly better than I can decipher with my own eyes. Now I need to find one that measures color temp as well.

I'm thinking of writing a custom smartphone app, which would take the values from the light sensor, and convert them to lumens.
I would have a small, simple, easy to make 'integrating...object...shape' (not a sphere, probably a box or cylinder of some kind), and I would put the light into one end, and have my phone at the other, and calibrate it to get 'reasonably' accurate values.

What do you guys think, and is it worth doing?
Also, do you think that it could be anywhere near accurate?

Nope, that is all. As soon as you hit the last #, it should take you to the test menu.
