V10R Questions

I'm new to flashlights and this forum. Just ordered an XML T6 V10R that, from what I read, can do 550 lumens on an RCR123. So I have a few questions:

1. Other than a longer run time, is there any reason to run CR123s instead of RCR123s?
2. What is the best RCR batteries and charger?
3. I've read that some lights slowly drain batteries—is that the case with this particular light/LED?

Cr123 cells have a long shf life and are good at low temperatures.
Personally i hardly use lithium primaries - i use AW rcr123 - but i do keep a pair of primaries in my car, my wifes car and my camera bag.
Good lithium primaries can support a pretty good current draw, the normal lion rcr cells can normally tolerate a 2c discharge (2x the capacity of the cell - so for a 750mah cell they will tolerate a 1.5amp draw)
IMR rechargeables (AW red label cells) can tolerate much higher drain rates

AW cells come pretty highly reccomended - i have close to 20 of them in various sizes (all protected "black label" cells) and havent had a problem.
There is other good brands too - but i dont have any real experience with them
The Pila IBC is the best charger, although i personally use a WF-139 and watch the cells pretty closely during charging.

3.
Im not sure, i think the SWM v10r disconnects completely when the switch is clicked off.
With rechargeables you just top them off occasionally.

Wherever you read that, it's false. The original XPG versions (Al and Ti) claim 210. The AE models (XML T5) claim 408 and the Al XML T6 is not listed on the website and the Battery Junction page does not include a lumen spec. This is likely related to SWM's new policy on published output figures. They want to provide 'non enthusiast' figures the general public can rely on. Thus based on chemistry around 1.2-1.5VDC (NiMH, Alkaline) But it can't be much higher than the T5. The XML U2 in the new Ti² is claimed to do 500 Lumens using an LiON 16340 battery.That makes it the 'king of the hill' for the V10R.

1.) reasons to run a primary run from availability, safety and ease of use I suppose.
2.) Questions about 'best' are not answerable. Especially without criteria. I and others seem to find the AW line to be superior in most aspects. YMMV
3.) there is no parasitic drain with the stock mechanical switch. AFAIK. It's electronic switches that have parasitic drain. The Ti² looks like it has an electronic switch but the web site claims it's a tactical forward clicky.

The V10R is an outstanding light. I own 5 of them in various forms. But if you're after 500+ Lumens I'm afraid you'll be disappointed.
