I have been looking for quite some time for a nice video camera. I am not one who wants to bother with recording media like tapes or mini DvDs so HDD has always been a must for me.
But here is where my problem gets more tricky. FIrst I refuse to buy a camera that uses the antiquated MPEG2 encoding. I haven't had much luck in finding quality cameras that record in more modern format.

I don't need or want to spend money on a professional grade $1,000+ camera. However there is another feature I am hoping to find. I want a camera which I can record at higher frame-rates. Ideally 100fps or more. I am a gymnastics coach and I want to be able to slow down some incredibly fast actions for analysis.

So first and foremost HDD with modern encoding formats, and secondary if they exist without having to sell a kidney the ability to turn up enhanced framerates.
Any suggestions on a camera or a videophile forum where I might get an answer?

Thanks

I have a JVC HDD camcorder and really like it. But, I think it shoots in MPG2 format. I just bought a Sanyo SD camcorder that will work underwater. It shoots in MP4 format. I know that Sanyo makes one of these that shoots in HiDef. You may want to check them out. The picture on mine is great, the HD one should be fantastic. They run around $300 to $400. I believe the models are called xacti.

Yes JVC were the first really on the market with HDD camcorders but they were all mpeg2. :ironic:
Sony followed soon after with HDDs that were also mostly mpeg2. I've heard there are newer Sony camcorders that do better formats, but Sony has been behaving badly the past few years so I've given Sony a time-out from my wallet for a decade to see if they get their act together.
I'll look at the Sanyos, thanks for the tip.
