Can the current from a wall phone jack light a LED on a star ??
please help with this idea by telling me what direction to go.
I'm looking for a simple circuit to make a nightlight for the kids!

the phone line runs at 45VDC or so but drops in voltage when connected to the CO. The ring comes over at something like 70VAC. You would need to build a circuit that isolates the DC voltage.

Anyway, if you use the power for something like a nightlight, you are stealing power from the phone company and opening yourself up to criminal prosecution......

Forget the phone line. The current is low and ring detection and use might be affected by the load. Just use a wallwart. It should cost less than 50 cents per month to run.
