Voltage drop in 123\'s under load?

Hi all, can anyone tell me if 4 123's in series (for 12 volts) will drop in voltage under a 1.2 amp load? I'm consider a mod for a Mag 2C involving some Carley lamps and 4 123's... Options include 9.6 and 10.4 (I believe) volt lamps that each draw 1.2 amps.

Any thoughts or am I not understanding how batteries work? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

10.4V bulb would probably serve you better in the long run. You might notice that the 9.6 produces a brighter light, but you're sure to be overdriving the bulbs, perhaps a little too much for longevity's sake.

I wold guess right about 10v depending of cell manufacture. Check out my flashlight site for something cloe, I should have done the 12PM with the MN60, I think that would be about what your talking about.

I can't claim this was my idea. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I got the idea from the mods forum, I believe the title of the post was "285 Lumen Mag 2C". The ~10v bulb is rated at two more spherical candlepower than the lesser voltage but if the later is overdriven... These bulbs won't be cheap (less that SF LA's, but still...) so to me longer life is more important than a marginal increase in output.

Brock, Hmm, those SF 4x123 lamps have a much lower voltage, but they're almost twice the amperage. WOW!

I don't know what the drop is but I'm driving a 20W 12V Halogen bulb with FIVE 123s in series. It is definitely being overdriven, I just never bothered to check by how much. It is very, VERY bright.
