I've been aware since early this year that Xtar was planning on discontinuing this charger, according to my local dealer. Back then, the VP2 model was still shown as a current model. But not anymore -- it's now relocated to the "Discontinued Charger" section.
So the question is, will there be a direct successor to this tried-and-tested model, which has earned high marks from independent testers like HKJ?
I'm hoping that Xtar will take all user feedback into account when devising such successor model, while retaining all the merits of the VP2 as well as improving the QC. Looking at the current VP lineup none of the chargers are perfect: both the VP4C and VP4+ lose the selectable top-off voltage compatibility, while the former is also now rendered USB-only (ie. no DC in for external adapter). Very disappointing and concerning indeed.
