Regulated electronics would be nice to have for various DB conversions and higher voltage projects I have in mind. Jonathan has in the pass suggested that I consider electronics, particularly when the combined voltage drop of so many cells needs to be considered. Size 15s reiteration of the suggestion motivates me to start this string.

Unfortunately, I don't have the foggiest idea on how to get started with a regulation mod. I gather from posts from Silviron, Lambda, or Electrolumens that the 7 cell plus dummy setup in a DB 8AA offers the opportunity to set up the regulation in the dummy.

Does anyone here feel like preparing and selling custom voltage DC / DC regulators sized in AA or A sized packages? Better yet, how about providing (a) output voltage adjustment pots -- (b)variable 4 V to 13 V input, and (c) the capacity to handle a 4.0 Amp output. I'd certainly be a multiple buyer.

This really would be a lovely device to replace one cell (the final positive contact cell?)of a DB 8AA rewired for serial. It could also be wired to a battery holder between a big battery pack(s) and the LA in my upcoming Daycor 800 conversion project light.

I've spent time since posting reading up on Voltage (not current) Regulators. I've been led to some posts discussing Willie Hunt and see that the closest product available for what I'm looking may be his LVR3I.

The LVR3I currently costs $50 + $10 (if not in one of two standard outputs) is not small enough for an AA dummy, and must be solder connected to three or four lead wires between the battery and the lamp. It handles input voltages of 5.5 to 15. Output voltages must be less than input voltage at 5 to 15. Output currents of up to 10 Amps can be handled. This would do well, for example, with a 7.2 V lamp overdriven to 7.7 V and powered by 7.2 V battery packs wired in serial to 14.4 V.
