Wanted UV light.

I'm looking for a good UV solution for scorpion hunting.
and illuminating my watch Lume at night.

I want 365nM.

I have lots of P60 hosts,
I also have a Surefire A2L that I wouldn't mind having the secondary (currently red) LEDs replaced.

I understand nailbender offered a P60 dropin that is currently really hard to find.
also there is this thread where he mods the prev. version of the A2.

So my question goes out, is there anything I'm missing? Are there other products or dedicated lights around I should be looking at?

The problem with many UV lights is low power output and limited range. Some seem to be so low powered that you would have to be a few inches from the scorpion before it will fluoresce. I want to spot them as far away as possible.

For trips to Bolivia, I bought a SolarForce LC-UV P60 drop in which has fantastic power and range. It's in the 380-450nm range, but I haven't returned to Bolivia yet to test it (I don't have the courage to try it out on a poor unsuspecting scorpion in Pet Smart). The price is right (about $20), if you already have a host it's a good deal.

I had the Streamlight Night Com UV, I sold it and replaced it with the SolarForce because it just didn't seem to have the range. However, if you're trying to detect counterfeit currency, Streamlight is the one to get.

Maybe some of our members in the Southwest can chime in...

Inova makes two 123 lithium battery powered 5 LED UV flashlight that I use to light up my watch. It is a powerful UV light, but caution should be taken not to shine this light directly into anyone's eyes!

You are right to say that Nailbender used to offer a Nichia 365nm option until he couldn't get those LEDs any more. It is/was an excellent dropin, I have one myself and won't ever sell it. :p

I have a Nichia UV LE from Don. It is an amazing LED, and makes a great mule or aspheric flood.

365nm and/or 395nm UV light wanted

A bit of an oddball topic for the recommendation section, but I am looking for a UV flashlight for photography purposes. More specific: fluorescent macro photography.
365nm and 395nm both have their purposes in this, but in summary - it appears that the 365nm wavelength is better at bringing out completely invisible fluorescence, whereas 395nm is generally better at separating tones that are already somewhat visible.

I'd like to keep my options open on which to get (preferably both in a module style), but 365nm has my preference for now.

A few details:
- Battery type: smaller is better, but anything from single AA, cr123a, 14500 to 18650 is acceptable. I'd like to avoid 2x123 lights that can't use 18650.
- LED: nichia 365nm UV but ledengine is possible. Avoiding the multi-led old style lights (like inova x5) since their spectrum seems to broad for photography and the fluorescing effects are diminished in these.
- Beam: simple OP reflector is OK.
- modes: at least a high and a low mode, otherwise things like PWM/moonlight aren't really necessary.
- UI: clicky switch but not a dealbreaker if it's something else.
- body: anodized aluminium is fine.
- price: anywhere from $50 to about $150 MAX.


I've already contacted EagleTac for an ET21 module for my P20A2, but these don't exist; contrary to what they list on their website. They do offer a UV module for the T20 series, which would fit the bill in a modular light, but I'm looking at other options first.

I'm currently thinking of getting into the P60 hosts because nailbender seems to have the emitters I'm looking for. Perhaps a Solarforce L2P with Nailbender's nichia drop-in, but I'm not sure how that would stack up against an EagleTac T20C2. Also, I'm completely new at P60, so no prior knowledge or equipment.
Of course, the T20 option would also get me the regular emitter (probably XP-G2).

Can you guys recommend me anything here? A simple and cheap CR123 or single AA (14500?) light would be nice to start me off, but it seems to be a bit of a niche product.

Eagletac has two UV dropins, a 395 and a 365, for the T20C2 mkII. My wife uses hers searching for rocks. I was surprised at how much it puts out.

I'm also looking for a UV light for, topic is a bit further down... I actually emailed Eagletac for a dropin for my P20A2, but they answered (on christmas day, no less!) that they're only available for the T20C2, which is a relatively expensive light to get just for that. I don't mind shelling out for the best quality UV emitter, and getting something modular that supports multiple drop-ins would be nice. Any other suggestions in this direction?

The UK has colony's of the European scoprion mainly in the south of England,here is a pic of one under a UV light.If I remember correctly there was a torch company that makes a scorpion hunting light for the guys who have to do a tour in the desert areas,pretty sure i read an article on here about it.
