Warren\'s Tutorial #2 : DIY : Star to Emitter

Hi,
Today is how to take off an emitter safely from star hexa.
Just follow the photos.

Prepare two wrench and grip tight.

Distort a bit (1 or 2 degree /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, i mean very little.)

You will see the butt (emitter) is ready for landing off !

Desolder at leadframe. less than 0.5 second. below 380 degree C.

Lift off Luxeon smoothly during desoldering.

You see now. Butt and one leg is off-ed. Do the other leg, too.

hmm,
on the last pic, i cannot identify the luxes. i know for sure the black ones are colored luxeons. What are the white ones? certainly not luxeons, are they?

The white one (1W,Batwing,Red,18lumen) is from the batch of 1st generation of Luxeon (Barracuda, AlInGaP, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif) produced in first mass production somewhere in 1999.

eTendue, you posted this before I registered here on CPF. I regret that I've not seen this earlier, and I wonder how many other little jems of knowlegde I've missed out on just because the "search engine gods" didn't smile upon my quest. Thank you for taking the time to put this process on permanent and well illustrated record.
