Quick question, does anyone know where I can get a waterproof connector to enable me to separate the light head from the battery container in a can light I'm building?

Doesn't have to be waterproof to 100m or anything, the max it'll go down is probably 15m.

Any ideas? Easily available in the UK would be good.

Cheers.

Best you look in www.farnell.co.uk

What you looking ?
- sealed connectors best marks : BULGIN ,LUMBERG,SUBCONN,BINDER,OCEANTECHNOLOGYSYSTEMS,...ENSTO

- EO cord (look http://shop.dev-pein.de/ catalogue page 106-110)

P.S. I have tryed some DIY E/O cord for low voltages (12V) with usual EURO connector male - female lengthening cable for computers.
Connectors must be obligatory moulded in plastics !
Pins are made from high resistance brass and they are very tough on acid (test with HCl) or base (testwith NaOH)

On male connector I have put some thin (bycycle inner tube) rubber in that way that three pins penetrate rubber (to prevent water flow which causes electrolysis). I have put positive and negative voltage between phase and GND pin (EARTH it is in the middle ) that increases volume /surface resistance between pins ( In seawater I have measured resistance between pins about 500000 Ohm which gives by ohm law 24uA (24*10-6 A) almost nothing.

Underwater for connecting/ disconecting light you first have to switch OFF canister (power source) - disconnect lamp from cable then connect other and turn power switch on canister ON ( to prevent contact voltage-current arc and burn off contacts).

Have you looked at Agro cable glands, made in Switzerland and have a seriously good reputation for deep water work. Huge variety.

Its frustrating when you know "some" vendor out that has what you're looking for, but it can be a pain to find. At 15m that would be a submersible connector (a category of waterproof).

As an electrical engineer I became frustrated with trying to find stuff like waterproof connectors or other components. So I created boomalink.com.

If you go to boomalink.com and enter "waterproof connectors" a list of over 100 vendors that I've personally screened will show up. You can check each link out to hopefully find what you're looking for. I believe most of the brands listed in previous posts are represented, plus much more.

Or, you can submit a listing for free listing exactly what you are trying to do and the site will notify the businesses that supply waterproof connectors for you. Its up to you, whatever works best. The direct link is http://boomalink.com/index.php/item/get/postings/previous_search/0BB3210E4E174FDC9806B1738355A3C0

Hope this helps someone,

Update on the site. I weeded out few vendors for waterproof connectors and also took off vendors that we don't have contact info for.

However, the list is still >60 vendors. Also, the list is located at the bottom of the page now.
