Waterproof piston switch development

I've been struggling to find a good waterproof pushbutton (momentary) switch for my custom headlights for more than a year now.

It needs to be smaller than 10mm diameter, waterproof to at least 2m and very rugged.

For various reasons I've rejected every switch I've tried so now I'm considering using an oring'd piston/plunger to poke a standard tactile switch through the outer body.

My initial thoughts look something like this:

The side with the flange is the 'inside' so the piston cannot fall out. Also there will be a spring holding the flange against the inner wall.

If anyone has suggestions about how this design can be made to work, then I'd love to hear them.

I know this sort of thing has been done before for diving camera cases but I can't find any useful information.

Some specific things I'm wondering about are:

3mm shaft or 6mm shaft?

2 orings in individual grooves or 3 orings in one big groove?

What will seal better?

Thanks in advance
