I'd say it might matter if its a mission critical situation, as in, if the light fails, is it dangerous, or, is it just inconvenient.
I prefer to use stuff that's at least intended for weapon use, like my Klarus XT11 has a dual sprung cell chamber...the cell is cushioned fore/aft...and it has a multi-mode pressure switch...which they made to use in a weaponized environment, heck, its about the ONLY pressure switch that also lets you change brightness, or even strobe, let alone the normal on/off most switches are limited too.
That light can take some serious abuse.
We have seen even AK47/AR15 type recoil shake apart a DX type light....the head can fall right off (Almost no thread overlap on tube sections on the el cheapo lights..). Of course, dropping one of those el cheapos on the floor will wreck them too.
So, if the light failing is not going to cost anything but some acceptable level of inconvenience...I guess anything might work.
If the light failing means someone (Unintended) might get hurt, or the level of inconvenience is not acceptable...then getting something made for weapon use is a better idea.
Even SureFire are not immune. One buddy paid ~ $400 for a SF, had to send it back for repairs 3x, and just gave up on the 4th...he never quite trusted it after all that. He went to Streamlight. Of course, he checked out my Klarus XT11 just last week, and, now he's ditching the Streamlight too, he loves the XT11. He wants MINE. :eek:
He's going to replace his current duty light with one too.
