Whether or not Astrolux makes a good flashlight, I decided to get one anyway. Saw a review on FLASHAHOLIC_TV's channel. When I got it, the beam pattern of the LEDs selected [SST40, 5000K] was very poor, IMO. Many rings, artifacts, and not the output of the Acebeam L35 I have.

I found a "problem" with the FT02S. When the light is on, a double click should cause the light to go into "Turbo" mode. But mine did a bright flash, then turned off. I clicked the button, and nothing happened. No amount of clicks did anything. The light on the switch was also out. I unscrewed the tail cap, then screwed it back in, and it worked again....until I tried the same experiment. Light on, double click, flash, then stops working.

I got this light from Banggood [whether I should have or not]. Why? Because I didn't see it on either Amazon or Ebay. Anyway, I started a return/refund process, and Banggood wanted me to take a video of the experience. For some reason, this morning, I put in a different battery than before, to do the test,.......and it worked. I thought to myself, "it's like when taking your car to a mechanic to tell them about a problem, and it doesn't do it".

So, finding it weird, I took that battery out, put the battery I had tested the other night into the flashlight, and sure enough, light on, double click, flash, stops working. I have two of the same batteries and they both do the same. The one I tested this morning hasn't done it yet.

The two batteries that have the issue: Nightcore 18650 3500mAh, 3.6V, 12.6Wh
The battery that doesn't have the issue: Lumintop 18650 2400mAh, 3.6V, 12Wh

What's going on????

It could be the problem battery isn't capable of putting out enough amps to sustain turbo, so the light shuts off. The battery that works is probably able to output more amps and therefore sustain turbo.

Also, are any of the batteries protected? Unprotected?

I have a few Astrolux lights, don't know if I've noticed that.

I think I agree with scalpel. A lot of time high amperage batteries have lower capacity.
I usually run IMRs in my high output lights.

I have a new cell [a 21j700] arriving tomorrow for it, at the suggestion of someone who's deep into lights. It will be an unprotected.

Having said that, it SEEMS that anyone would WANT a protected cell, rather than an unprotected. I may need to research this.

I go for protected if it's a cell that will vent/explode.

I don't think IMRs or LifePO4's vent/explode. I don't think I've ever seen a protected IMR or LifePO4 cell. (I'll bet someone here has seen one.)

Why don't you link us the cell (or all of the cells) and not let us guess what it is?
