Having a single SHTF light is pointless. In a survival situation, two is one, one is none, and if you have one working tool after the other breaks, other people will will want it and may fight you for it. In a SHTF scenario, you need at least three. You need a small edc. Something innocuous like a keychain light. This could be as simple as a freebie coin cell light that you give up to a desperate person or something with hands free and rechargeable options like a Nitecore Tip 2. Make sure you get a light that starts on in low, not high. The idea with the keychain light is OPSEC. When the power goes out, the first person to turn on a bright light is the first to get stabbed and robbed. You want to turn a light on in low to not draw attention to yourself until you can get away from scared masses of people. Don't be announcing you have better or multiple lights or you won't have them for long. The second light is your primary. This should have options for very high and very low brightness levels with excellent runtimes on low and medium and long enough runtime on high to get through a security guard shift (Plus turbo for spotting threats at a distance). It should be lithium ion, preferably 21700 powered with built in charging in the light or battery. I'd use a Nitecore MH10 (or MH12), or a Nitecore E4K for this light. USB charging will allow for in car or solar charging on the go. Then you need a third light, a backup light. This should take the most widely available batteries you can scavenge from anywhere, AAs. For me, that's a 4sevens Quark Pro 2A. My light runs near a month on moonlight mode or near 24 hours with enough light to walk a trail. It still has a decent turbo as well.
