I often contemplate which Flashlight would make the best "Zombie Apocalypse" Flashlight. A lot of factors come into play such as quality/overall reliability of Flashlight. I think perhaps most important is to have a Flashlight that runs using the most common/available Batteries (which I suspect would be "AA's"). I also believe the Flashlight MUST have a low/low'ish (Firefly/Moonlight) setting for many reasons. I think the "low light" feature is more important than having an overly powerful/bright Flashlight. I like Flashlights that accept different types of Cells such as 18650 and CR123 and/or will work using either "Primary and Rechargeable" Batteries. My STREAMLIGHT 88061 ProTac 1L-1AA 350-Lumen Dual Fuel Flashlight is pretty darn cool as it works using either a single "AA" or a "CR-123". In fact, my ProTac even works using a single "AAA". I like options.
Since I live in Maine, I can't rely on Solar (although I SHOULD consider a Solar recharger). I also can not completely rely on "rechargeables" should the Grid go down for any extended period of time. On the whole, I like having "Primaries" especially "AA & CR123". For my lil' AAA only Flashlights (such as my Lumintop Tool) I always keep a bunch of "AAA Primaries" tucked away.

I wish the ProTac 1L-1AA had a 15 lumen or less low mode.

Having a SHTF light is a bad idea.

Have many and different battery sizes. They should be durable and reliable, in case they too hit the fan or whatever else. I honestly wouldn't trust my life to a light like the IF25A or any of those other hotrod style lights. Also, since you never know where you'll be when SHTF, your EDC better be your SHTF light.

Having a single SHTF light is pointless. In a survival situation, two is one, one is none, and if you have one working tool after the other breaks, other people will will want it and may fight you for it. In a SHTF scenario, you need at least three. You need a small edc. Something innocuous like a keychain light. This could be as simple as a freebie coin cell light that you give up to a desperate person or something with hands free and rechargeable options like a Nitecore Tip 2. Make sure you get a light that starts on in low, not high. The idea with the keychain light is OPSEC. When the power goes out, the first person to turn on a bright light is the first to get stabbed and robbed. You want to turn a light on in low to not draw attention to yourself until you can get away from scared masses of people. Don't be announcing you have better or multiple lights or you won't have them for long. The second light is your primary. This should have options for very high and very low brightness levels with excellent runtimes on low and medium and long enough runtime on high to get through a security guard shift (Plus turbo for spotting threats at a distance). It should be lithium ion, preferably 21700 powered with built in charging in the light or battery. I'd use a Nitecore MH10 (or MH12), or a Nitecore E4K for this light. USB charging will allow for in car or solar charging on the go. Then you need a third light, a backup light. This should take the most widely available batteries you can scavenge from anywhere, AAs. For me, that's a 4sevens Quark Pro 2A. My light runs near a month on moonlight mode or near 24 hours with enough light to walk a trail. It still has a decent turbo as well.
