WF-502B CREE XM-L T6?

What can anybody tell me about this flashlight since it comes with zero specs or a user manual? Does it have circuit protection built into it so it's safe to use with unprotected 18650's? It seems to say 3.5v-4.2 from searching around the net so it could have a cutoff. Any info would be helpful :)
 

I've done an extensive search of your forums and Google..haven't found the info I'm looking for..at least I haven't found reliable info. The 2 things I would like to know most are: Is it safe to use unprotected 18650's and what are the correct instructions to set the memory?

Seems most info I can find come from people who probably don't really know what they are talking about. I'm pretty advanced when it comes to electronics as I repaired them for years..self taught though. I researched lithium ions when buying 18650 e-cigs a couple years ago so I know the safety risks :)
 
So no one here has taken apart one of these lights and have info about the circuitry in them? Surprising as they seem to work well for the price. Either that or this is the place where threads go to die :D

Well this is the biggest reason I joined these forums so I might not stick around other than to get info or the occasional reply as I already know quite a lot about electronics..been tinkering with them since I was young and even did game console repairs for around 4 years. Not to mention I do tech support and light computer repair...

I have one from dx (5 modes). This one doesn't have any protection for cut of voltage. As for the memory it just power on again on the last mode (if you have it on for 3-5 seconds on that mode)

So nope, can't help u with the driver because there are 101 different kinds of drivers out there that fits into a P60 dropin.

I bought 2 from 2 Amazon sellers..not sure if I can link it here..I believe I linked one of them in the OP but because I'm new I"m not sure I can. I understand that the Cree XM-L T6 is the emitter or diode ;)

I also know the WF-502B is the body/design or "host" flashlight body and they have been made with with different emitters circuit boards ect... :) I'll try to link both if it lets me and is not removed. Maybe the answer is some do some don't and I might not know unless I dissemble them..

Also I noticed the second one is longer and it looks like the switch is thicker in it..I think the body is made longer to accommodate the bigger switch or maybe bigger circuit board..thanks for any help :)

They only mention 5 modes & nothing else.

Yeah I would probably have to take them apart. Funny thing is I can't find any manual for any WF-502B and usually I find almost anything searching. I will probably only use protected batteries in them. I have some unprotected ones from E-Cig's that I could use in an emergency..but most likely I never would have to.

I always have enough power to run a charger even in outages as I have an 400w inverter plus car battery booster. Not to mention the generator in the garage that can be plugged into the house..but never had to use it as the power hasn't gone out here long enough to be worth plugging it in the last 6 years or so I've lived here..I think the longest outage was 8 hours when the transformer blew down the road but the sump was dry and it wasn't cold so I didn't bother. Thanks for trying :)

AS explained a WF-502B is just a host for a P60 dropin, there isn't too much to write about a chunk of aluminium in a manual.

Right, i should have mentioned that you will have probably better results when you search for P60 or D26 dropins, since the driver sits in the dropin & the dropin sits in the host (502B)...

And IF you are willing to invest in a decent dropin, do check out on Vinh's work.
His dropins are top-notch..

Yes I understand but I was just saying can't find a manual for any WF-502B at all no matter the drop in..plus the drop in won't tell me what's in the switch end will it?

I wish I could afford it but can't right now..I needed a new light to use around and was sick of using non-rechargeable batteries in other lights so I bought what had a decent rating for the price..got both lights, batteries and charger for around $22 shipped.

Might mod one later but I'll most likely do it by building my own "dropin" depending on if it makes sense to do so..if it doesn't have a protection circuit if I can I would put one in or get a "button" protection circuit to use with unprotected batteries..well more likely I'll just get more protected batteries instead :)
 
Switches in these just connect / disconnect the power, it's entirely up to the drop-in how that's interpreted; a brief power disruption (half-press) usually results in a mode change in the driver. It's all in the "smarts"

Could have swore when I watched a video of this light or one like it there was a circuit board in the switch end..but could be mistaken. I'll have to find/watch the video again.

Edit: Just took the "plug" out of one of mine guess I was wrong as it looks like just a switch..so I just need to figure out what circuit is in the "dropin" to figure it out. I'll search for it tomorrow probably. Thanks for any help :)

Simply unscrew the head and you will see about what we are talking.

Yeah I know..I had the first light (and 2nd when recived) apart as far as it would go without un-soldering or "breaking" any glue..including unscrewing the reflector. But I would have to unsolder the LED I believe to get the actual circuit out to see what's on it.

I would rather not go that far unless I have an issue with the light. I probably could get most info I need to know by looking up the "dropin". I may be new to these kinds of flashlights but I'm not new to 18650's or eletronics..not a master in them either..also I'm decent at soldering but only do so when things need to be fixed usually. Well I have un-soldered broken things to just do it or see what I could do. I have a butane soldering iron works great for quick small stuff :)

The 2 - 18650's that came with one of the lights are protected..they are taller than my E-Cig unprotected 18650..the E-Cigs have protection built into it. One of the reasons I posted this was in case of emergency I might use the 4 - unprotected 18650's I have.

But I doubt I would ever have to and at some point I'll probably buy more protected ones. Could possibly just buy a "button cell" protection chip that goes on top of unprotected batteries..they made them a couple years ago so people could use unprotected 18650's (or other high drain lithium batteries) in their modded E-Cigs..but that's only if they don't cost too much. I think they were under $10 when thgey first came out.
