Did I seriously miss some major announcement?

I've made repeated mistakes in straying from flashlight specific topics and getting involved. I'll be sticking to lights and light-hearted threads only from now on, won't even read them let alone comment.

The world's gone crazy let alone the forum. Still waiting for common sense and logic to return to humanity.

UG is going away. That place is mostly dead.

As I see more and more posts turn into controversial topics, we will have a place for them to go. If people don't want to behave, they don't get to play in the sandbox.

J J, please don't get rid of the UG. There is so much history and real stories of how CPF evolved down there. Maybe just archive it?

That's how Greta set it up. Anything controversial was supposed to be said there, and was to remain there only. Including any descriptive and colorful four-letter language. Nothing from UG was supposed to migrate here, onto CPF proper.

I visited UG a handful of times over the years. But it just wasn't my cup of tea. Nothing against those who visited it often. And, nothing against Mr. Ed for deciding to deal with it in a different way than it was originally set up.

I dropped by the UG a few times over the years, but ultimately I found it to contain too much angst for me. As Monocrom said, nothing against the membership there, it's just not my speed.

The intention of the UG will stay hidden from search engines, etc. Those who wish may choose to ignore it, and it will benefit those registered before today - but afterward, they will need to support the site with a membership to be able to use it.

Change is never fun, but it's inevitable if we want to survive.
