What charger for 10440 Li-ion batteries?

I tried doing a search on this, but most threads were old and didn't have a clearcut answer, the recommended charger is no longer available (the nanos), or there were a bunch of limitations (such as budget).

I'm going to be getting 2 LF2XT lights soon and was looking into picking up a set of 10440 batteries (AWs unless there's something more reliable).

What would be a good reliable charger for 10440s that doesn't require modifications (simple, foolproof mods are fine) and is readily available?

I see most threads recommending those cheap Chinese DX chargers, but I also see that those chargers don't exactly have very good track records. I don't have any real budget as I just don't want my house to go :poof:, but if the price of the charger is too outrageous, I'll just scrap the Li-ion idea entirely. If you recommend a hobby charger, please tell me what model and where I could get one.

Thanks in advance.

On another note, I was also planning to modify something like a metal tool box to charge my batteries in so it would act like a "reverse bomb shelter" should the battery/charger decide to explode. I was thinking of drilling holes on the bottom, with a few on the top and sides as well as possibly rigging up a small cooling fan for some ventilation.

I'm not sure how powerful the explosions from these batteries are, so would this plan actually make things safer, or would it just add more shrapnel?

One good choice would be to get both AW cells and an appropriate 10440(AA-AAA) charger from Lighthound .

They sell both items . (charger is $14.99)

I think Lighthound is pretty well recommended around here. ( I use them )(fast shipping too)

(You need protruding button-top cells for use in Liteflux LF2XT Lights) (most will agree)

I don't think there's is anything readily available... as in Frys, best buy, radio hack...etc...

your best bet is a hobby charger, and wire up a 1xAAA cell carrier. Set the output to ~300mah and you're all set.

since the nano charger for 10440 is no longer made, the ultrafire 148(?) is the alternative if your looking in that price range

By readily available I mean I don't have hunt down something that is no longer in production, as in those nano chargers.

I am looking into all of the above suggestions, that USB micro charger looks pretty neat. Lighthound seems to sell the same cheap *fire chargers as DX, I don't really trust those from what I've read here. With the hobby charger recommendation, what model?

I use UltraFire, model-WF-138 (250mA output)... for 10440's. (2-bay)(10440's or 14500's)

Don't get UltraFire, model WF-139 (with 450mA output).. it's for 14500's /17500/18500/18650/RCR123-3.7v. (too much for 10440's)

There are not many chargers available for 10440 sizes.

We've all probably read that these 10440s like to be charged around 100 mA. I can't find a charger that will do that, that is also appropriate for travel. Hobby chargers, and delicate projects are not appropriate for life on the road.

If you are not willing to have exposed wires of just want to keep it simple XTAR makes a couple of options. The VP1 is $50, it charges two cells and displays each cell's voltage for extra geek credit. It can charge at three rates (including 250 mA) and it is widely distributed. The obvious downside is price!

The XTAR XP1 is a single-cell smart wall-wart charger that has a 250 mA rate, and costs $8. It sounds so good that I ordered one.

My Nitecore Intelli Charger IP4 is SUPPOSED to handle 10440 batteries but it does nothing. On the other hand the Cottonpicker charger supplied by MBI for the nuke batteries works fine at the 100 ma charge rate but only one at a time.

Xtar WP2s. It'll allow 250mA, 500mA and 1A charging and will do the whole shebang for common Li-Ion flashlight batteries. It even has a 5v/2.1A USB OUTPUT for charging your USB crap up, from a charged cell.

Why limit yourself to one type?

You can get them for $30 shipped off of Ebay.
