What does IMR stand for?

I know that IMR batteries (like the ones AW makes, which I don't have but do intend on getting to power my mini lasers I am planning on building) are LiMn Lithium-ion batteries, capable of higher discharge rates while having somewhat lower total capacity.

But I'm wondering what IMR is an acronym for and it's driving me crazy that I can't find the answer!

That sounds highly dangerous :eek:

Powerful lasers belong in a lab with proper safety equipment, in which case they don't need powerful batteries to run them.


But I'm wondering what IMR is an acronym for and it's driving me crazy that I can't find the answer!
Ion-Manganese-Rechargeable.

Yes I do not intend on using them like I use my flashlights but it is definitely within my rights to try to reduce the spatial footprint of my equipment. Portable lasers do have certain benefits (not the least of which is being able to mount it on a weapon, for an example)

In building such a unit (powered from a single AA or CR123 sized cell) the safety aspect must certainly be accounted for. It is for precisely this reason that I want to procure IMR cells so as to have the safest operating conditions possible.

And of course the fact that laser builders tend to use flashlight equipment is only a testament to the quality of the components available to the flashlight community. :)
