Re: What is \"donut hole\"?

If you use a Mag, just adjust the focus a bit and I think you'll see a donut hole there. Actually you'll see a messy donut hole, but that's the kind of thing people are talking about. It's usually caused by de-focusing a bit, and it makes the light pattern look like a donut - ie a dark area in the middle where the hot spot should really be.

Cheers

yep, and try to find a 5W luxeon star flashlight that has a smaller than average reflector. These will give a pretty visible "donut hole". Frankely, I think the whole donut thing is way overblown... When I actually use my light in the dark, that thing has never bothered me at all.

I second KFC, I use my lights to "light" up the area. Donut hole are only for ppl who stares at white walls /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Take a look at some of the Surefire U2 threads, there are several good photo examples of LED donut holes in this flashlight.

Greetings All. I've been searching the site at various times for several days, but have yet to find pictures of the U2's beam in any thread within the LED index. I recently purchased U2 #A01660 and can detect what I believe is a faint donut hole at all settings out from beyond two feet distance and would like to see photos for comparison.

I enjoy the light and have no issues with improper tailcap function or the very slight greeish tint. I must say, however, that I was a bit disappointed when I first used it and discovered something less than a "Flawless beam, no dark spots or rings...," as Surefire advertises the U2 on their site. Many thanks in advance to any and all that can direct me to these threads.

O'DubhGhaill, out.

[/ QUOTE ] /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/aaa.gif I hate the heck out of donut holes! They drive me nuts! If present, I alwayse use the light at the side of the hole to see what I am looking at. Textured reflectors rule!
