I ask because I saw some (claimed) 2800 mAH AAs online. I wonder if this claim is analogous to some computer speakers, you know they say 350 Watt, when they're actually 35 Watt RMS.

2800mah should be regular alkalines... or close to it... NiMHs right now are capped off at 2200mah...

Well, there is a photo of them, it shows the side of the cell, and says:

Sanyo Rechargacell
Super 2800 mAh
Sealed NI-MH Battery
model N-SUS 1.2v/2800mAh
Std.charge for 14-16hrs. at 280ma
Quick charge for 4-6hrs. at 700ma

Do you have a link, so we may peruse?
It could be a photoshop job or a real product.
I haven't heard of anything that high and that sure would be a large leap in capacity.
If anyone could do it, Sanyo would probably be first....

I'm amazed that they released it so quickly! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I heard they achieved 3000mA on Ni-MH AA about six months ago...

Wait a minute... Rechargacell? Isn't that label specifically for NiCads? Maybe I'm missing something here, or they changed their naming designs...

Can you give us a link to the photo you're talking about, Shankus?

Errrr....
I think he's talking about a "C" size. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Gee... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I don't know what to say. Could this be samples?
I'm making inquiries; should be receiving sosme responses soon.

Since the review at Imaging Resource claims 2200mAh cells are coming from Sanyo, I'd be suspicious of these 2800s.

If the 2200 mAh cells are just coming out, isn't it a little suspicious that only one person on Ebay has 4 2800 cells?

We could really dig into this further, but I'd say it's a fake. The "N-3US" is a Sanyo 1000 mAh NiCD in AA size.

(edit) I just spoke with someone over at TNR Technical, who is a large distributor of industrial Sanyo cells in the US, and they haven't seen Sanyo that high in the AA form factor. Something definately doesn't smell right. It could be a first-in-Japan thing, but I really doubt it. I'd also expect such a high-demand, rare item to sell a more than $4 a piece.

I'm with you on the digital resources thing.
Interesting that I had come up with the N-3US by viewing the batteries. I hadn't gotten to Sanyo yet.
You beat me to it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also like the color shift between the three pictures.
Two are the same color.
Wasn't the third taken with the same camera?

I'm setting myself up to take a lot back, but it was suspicious to start with....

The other problem I'm having is finding *any* sanyo "rechargacell" in 2800 mAh for any form factor.
I'm also looking for a statement I found a few months back talking about the maximum theoretical capacity of a NiMH AA.

That color difference, I noticed it too. It's the only thing I found suspicious, other than, of course, the high capacity.
And the "first in Japan" thing is possible too. It seems that sometimes, better products are marketed over there, and the U.S. market is left out of the loop. I have seen that some Mini-Disc player/recorders are made available only in Japan, so why not batteries too?
I could really use a hi-cap nimh like this for my gps, it is very hard on batteries, I carry two extra sets with it.

I checked N-3US in Japanese Sanyo site. It says "Ni-Cd 1000mAh" again. This thing is.... after all.

They have 3000mAh AA in their lab. It'll be out in a couple of years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow! They went for $36, $9 apiece! Even if they are real, I wouldn't pay $9 apiece....

funny the pic that shows the part number that is a 1000 nicd happens to be true sanyo yellow /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
bet they are fakes.
wouldnt want to pay 36.01 to test them though.

it just hit me.
look at the big crimp at the top.
real sanyos have a very narrow and compact pos end crimp.
i dont see the hr logo on the bottom either.
fakes?
you bet.

Someone made this shrink wrap sleeve, so this scam will plague the market. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
