What range of lumens and run times are we getting now for the latest generation LEDs?

1st: that depends on Your power source!

the general max is some 800 mA to the led, what makes about 200+ Lumen,
(exception is K2 with 1.5 A and thus some more lumen for considerably more power consumed, all my following typing does not deal with that led)

in real a single 18650 can power such a led at full power (around 200 lm) for 2 hours + some mins, lets say: 20.

underpowering them - as Your range covers the nominal - to the measured value of a given output at 350 mA drive --> about 95-100 lm for the latest led, ..., that makes some 6 hours


PS: the value at 350 is measured and therefore realtively granted, the max power is calculated, as far as I understand the datasheets.

You'd get about 100lm-120 OTF from 1AAA for about 30-45mins. The Avg AAA nimh is around 800-900mAh to get 100-120lm OTF you're looking at about 600-800mAh at the LED. With some loss in the driver. This is for a single die. The MC-E or P7 could do this with much better runtime.

50lms you're looking at ~1.5 hours. Same logic but less than half the current values.

You're incorrect. AAA Ni-MH has ~850mAh @1,2V. To get 90-100 OTF lumens you must drive R2 at 350mA = 1050mA from battery + driver losses. Boost drivers are not very efficient, 75-80% is very good result. Runtime would be up to 30 minutes with 1200mA current draw.

This is where you're wrong. At 350ma to the LED the P7 and MC-E dies would be seeing around 87.5ma per die which is more efficient than a single die seeing 350mA. At 87.5mA per die you're over 100lm/w (IIRC it's close to 120lm/w)where you're around 97-100lm/w with a single die. If you drive the LEDs are around 100mA then the quad die LEDs are close to 150lm/w. Where the single die is still in the 100lm/w range.

It's not always about driving something at it's hardest, sometimes it's about getting the best efficiency.

But yes no one makes a MC-E or P7 powered AAA light because at that size you could just as easily make a AA or 18650 light.
