Was supposed to be a 1AA floody headlamp, I thought. Vaporware?

Was looking forward to an interchangeable bezel 1AA flooder.

It would be interesting to see this but I don't recall Spark advertising a SD5 coming out. Correct me if I'm wrong. There will be a new headlamp coming out in the coming weeks from Spark though.

Wasn't there an adapter with reflector that turns a flood Spark into a throw Spark? I forgot if it was for for the AA format or other battery chemistry.

Good question actually...the early commentary on the "SD5" was actually about the "SD52," so those two names are used interchangeably in the CPF archives during the pre-release days of the SD52. I could swear I'd read about Spark's intention to create an SD5 with a single AA for power, but now I can't find this anywhere. Did I imagine it?

(about the Spark filter and alternate bezel: Yes, Sparks' good at providing beam modification. There are filters for the ST series, and alternate screw in bezels for the SD series. The former convert spot to flood(ish) and the latter convert flood to spot(ish).)

Aha! Here, in post #167, Xyber comments: "SD52 will be released in later Oct, SD5 will be the final one of SD series." The SD5 is referred to several other times in this thread. In #329 he states: "SD series shares the same bezel, so the screw-on reflector will be compatible for all SD series, even SD5 or SD73(maybe)." A poster also states, "What is the ETA on the SD5 single AA model??" in post #364.

So it appears that the SD5 is indeed a separate project, a single AA headlamp.

However, Xyber states "I will update the SD5 here next week" and that post was on 9/21/2011.

I stand corrected. The upcoming headlamp will use a battery pack capable of holding multiple types of batteries, lithium ion to alkaline. I'll have to ask about the SD5
