How about this:

NEC PC-8201-
CPU - 2.4Mhz 80C85
Memory - 32KB
Display - 40x8 LCD
No hard disk, floppy, or CDROM

Naah, just kidding. Although the above neat little piece of history is actually around here, I really use this:

IBM Thinkpad 560e-
CPU - 166Mhz Pentium
Memory - 80MB
HDD - 2.1GB
OS - Win98SE Japanese

Holy cow, that's fast!!!
Even a 1.02MHz 6510 RISC processor (as used in a Commode 64, only 56 legit instructions) isn't yet a collector's item - but only time will tell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Then again, the first commercially successful 80xx processors ran at something like 500KHz, and they aren't collector's items yet either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
(Unless people collect old computers - after all, some people collect old used insulators from the 1800s & 1900s and tired old ghetto blasters from the 1970s and 1980s. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

AMD K-5 166mhz, 48ram, 3.5 floppy, CD-Rom (16x), CDR (32x), 56k modem, Win95 SP2.

On a table nearby, Packard Bell 386sx 16, 8ram, 3HD.
Will still power up, but hasn't enough storage space for any serious stuff.

Heh... Punchcards are antiques now... California Academy of Sciences in 'Frisco has it on display, and I'll tell ya, it in no way resembles a "computer"...

Since I just put a new floor in my office, I took advantage of having my computer all disconnected to take it out to the driveway and open it up. I'll tell you what's inside: DUST. And lots of it. These things sure make great little vacuums.

You can always go buy some foam filters from Fry's to clamp onto your 80mm or 120mm case fans. It makes the fans a little bit more louder, but it also does a great job of preventing dust from getting into the computer.

celeron 600 with a tft touch screen.runs from 12v directly.
the rest of my boxes are made of hand me down server parts.
all multiprocesser with raid 5,redundant everything.

James S: I love my TFT monitor. Cost me $295 + $25 S&H. When I said Generic, I meant it: No brand name! Got it brand new via eBay, was just browsing the listings after looking around locally, and this was $50 cheaper than cheapest in town. This is an analog input, not the funky digital connectors. Compared to the NEC 1996 vintage 17" CRT it replaced, this is a feather.

Altair 8080, huh?? I remember those being sold in KIT form in amateur radio magazines at the time. Only one of those I have seen in film, is in Wargames (Matthew Broderick) "Shall we play a game?" I do beleive that used the S100 bus.

Okay, how about this: Digiac 3080 - IS a Desk, 80 column hollerith card reader, paper tape punch and reader, IBM selectric I/O writer, rocker switches for address and data (both in Octal), 4 KB CORE memory (ferrite cores IBM style). Price was about $200,000 NEW. North Central Technical College had one of THOSE. They also had an NCR Century Systems Model 100 small systems Mainframe (noisy printer on that one).

Altair? No, but in college I learned machine code on a PDP-11..

Ahh, those were the days - entering code in octal via toggle switches on the front panel...

Custom Athlon 900Mhz / 512MB / 10GB

Custom Athlon 1.2Ghz / 1.2GB / 30GB / 40GB / 120GB

Plus enough miscellaneous parts to build about another 2 machines..

I'm also looking for an HP 200LX at the moment. If anyone has one they want to get rid of, let me know..

Falcon I'd like to go to Fry's but 3000 miles for a filter is just too far. You Californians have life too easy. I use a wire screen. It doesn't get all the dust, but it's easy to clean with a vacuum cleaner.

Of course not everyone can filter the air. The case fan has to blow in, not out. I bought a can of blow at Compusa. That's not what it's called but that's what it does. It does an amazing job of cleaning out the dust. The parts look brand new afterwards. They tell me not to use a vacuum cleaner on electronic boards. Static electricity kills them.

AMD Durron 800 w/.25 Gib RAM 40 Gib disk
Celeron 1.7GHz w/.25 Gib RAM 40 Gib disk
433MHz 21164A (EV56S) w/2Mib L3cache 128 Mib RAM, 8Gib disk

Everyone is hooked together with 100BT/full switched. Really need to get the 21264(EV6) up and running. Anyone have an XP1000 power supply for which they're looking for a good home?

Ya know, I worked at a PC shop part time a couple of years ago and always felt I needed to keep my system damn near to what the Jones had next door. However last summer after upgrading from a PIII-733 system to a P4-2.26G system and seeing very little difference in bootup time or everyday application running time, I do not see myself upgrading the processor for quite some time. I love my 19 inch trinitron monitor but if my eyesight weren't so crappy, I'd save up for a 20inch LCD. Bottom line, If had to make a choice I'd keep the 733mhz system with high speed DSL rather then the 2.26G (or the fastest available) with only dial up.
