What's So Good with HDS ?

Hey guys, My first real light the ET G25C2 arrive this week and its got me thinking i need to buy more.... maybe an EDC light. I really like the look of the HDS lights and have read as much as I can find here on CP. I'd like a light that has infinite output options and am looking at the HDS Rotary. However, what I still can't find is why they are so good, please could someone enlighten me as to why the HDS lights are so great. What custom lights are out there that are better... I've seen a few Mac lights and they look very nice too...... So, what makes the HDS great lights ? Cheers Alan

if you read about all of the awesome features you would know why they are so beloved. I would say HDS torches are almost perfect the only way i would improve them would be with a nice sturdy pocket clip screwed onto the tail cap and even longer low runtimes.

What's great is only that they are extremely customizable, efficient in power consumption, and almost indestructable. Basicly they are the total package, lol!

If you hold one in your hand,then you'll realise how solid it is.Thats where it starts,then you can programe it for which ever way
you want your light to perform,then there's the warranty,the runtimes,versatility basically everything you want from a high end
flashlight.

Well, reading the 16 Part HDS Systems/Ra Clicky thread that has been running for some years now is a great place to start. Be sure to set aside about 50 hrs if you want to get through them all.

IMO the ability to program the light's output how ever you like and the various built in user functions/options is probably it's most practical feature. The size is good but not the smallest you'll find in the single CR123 format. The build is good, like surefire quality, but they have had minor complaints in the past in regards to cosmetic blemishes like anodizing imperfections. In terms of reliability the lights are suppose to be very durable and overly built for serious use and abuse however you will read on occasion of someones light malfunctioning and being returned for repair/replacement. HDS is known for having excellent customer service and gets rave reviews on this forum in regards (my personal experience with HDS for customer service has been excellent).

I've had mine for about 19 months and carry/use it everyday. To date I've been very happy with it and would recommend it.

The easiest thing you can do is to read up on the HDS website. I got wealth of information from there before I started reading user opinions. Nobody knows HDS as much as HDS itself. Make sure to click on Articles and Site Map when you are in there.

For a infinite variable output option, I'd also consider Sunwayman V10. For EDC I think the bulk and weight of HDS might be a concern. Since I use rechargeable batteries, the necessity of multi-level lights isn't a big concern. I prefer simplicity, and steer away from lights that require reading a manual. I'm really liking the prospect of Sunwayman M11R for EDC. Zebralights are popular too.

The lights are high quality, well made and they work when you need them to. I have owned four of the old HDS EDC...they were/are bullet proof. I now own a Ra Twisty that I purchased 2nd hand. Some of these twistys tended go off the tracks and loose one of the output levels due to a manufacturing glitch...this happend to the original owner of my light. I got it from him with two of three levels functional.

And here's the answer to your question OP:

I contacted HDS, explained the issue in an email that I'm the second owner and am willing to pay to have the light fixed and so forth. Henry emails me back, says send the light in and he'll fix it...and he will not accept payment for the work. I got the light back a few weeks later and the soldering on the contact wires has been very obviously beefed up. It's a robust repair that is unlikely to ever be a problem again.

So, Henry makes great products that work and provide much owner satisfaction. He also backs up his products with 'no BS' customer service
