When is someone going to do a new multitool?

Its been a while since there were any cool multitools introduced or at least ones with updated features.

Really, since the Swisstools were introduced and the Wave before that, its been pretty quiet.

I guess I would like to see some new additions - how about a Wave with locking tools (all of them)? How about a Swisstool with one handed opening blades?

Anyone else have any insight into new ones coming out? How about features you would like to see?

Spyderco was coming out with the Spyder Wrench, but this doesn't seem to be happening. Here is a link with the only picture I can find now. There used to be more info. The people that had them liked them a lot. I think I first read about them on Blade Forum, you might do a search there.

I've had a Spyderench for years. Great knife! If you can find one, pick it up. They are hard to find.

The picture doesn't do it justice (too small). Tell me about your tool. Are they still being made?

I also wish that Victorninox would do their Swiss Tool with a one handed opening blade - that would be pretty close to the perfect tool.

It's a combination full-sized knife -- slip-joint pliers -- and crescent wrench.
With slotted and phillips screwdrivers.
VERY nice.

The SpyderWrench never really took off for some reason. I remember one magazine doing a story on the guy that designed it, Blade magazine - I think. I got the first one I saw. My problem was that it was very heavy to clip in your pocket. It rattled, and the bits fell out all the time in my pocket. I liked it, but in the end the weight got to me and I swapped it off. Wish I had kept it, I didn't know that they would only be produced for a short time and be so hard to find now. I thought I would be able to buy them in a few years for half what I paid, shows what I know.

I love mine. Right now it needs to go back to Spyderco for a new blade. Mine has the optional "screwdriver tip" blade (read: I broke the end off doing something stupid). Hope it doesn't take forever or they swap it out for something else.

Very weird.
On mine the screwdriver keeps all the bits contained.
They couldn't fall out if I wanted them too.

So I take it from reading this that this "wrench" cannot be found anywhere anymore?

I just found these quotes on bladeforums.

Hi Jack, we're not planning on stoppoing production permanently. We had some vendor problems and we're changing vendors. There will be a gap in production, buit there are still plans for the future of the Rench.

and

The Rench is currently undergoing major tooling modification. We're planning for a Spring '04 re-intro. The changes should solve the mfg problems that slowed production.

GJW,
Thanks for the info. I had just about given up on this one. I'll be looking forward to the re-release.

What I would like to see is one of the smallest Leathermen with a cork screw (what do you call that thing again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif ), while the smallest ones are excellent they miss exaclty this, these who have that feature are too big for my taste. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
