My advice: buy a Dorcy 1 AAA 1 LED light, then hibernate for 1 year. Wake up, research, and buy what's best at the moment.

Absolutely right, Dorcy AAA 1 LED always my EDC since... i don really recall when i get it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

I tried the Dorcy once, with my keys attached to it, I sat, looked down and saw it lit in my front pocket. Didn't work for me. Now I will try the Photon Freedom before I give the Arc aaa a try.

My PEAK lights came in like 2 days.. the peak AAA far as i can tell is a clone of the arc as far as size n shape.. i bought the red so i can't directly compare the light output... look at the reviews at flashlightreviews.com they are very highly rated from there.. i've only bought the 'specials' so far.. but for $15 not shipping what a bargain.

There isn't much over at Peak's discount page, also their lights while comparable to Arc's aaa, are slightly longer.

I ordered one on the 8th, and have recieved nothing since, that ticks me off, now I'll never get it? I'm sorry Arc is going out of Biz but what's the deal?

You'll probably get your money back if you gave any. Best bet is still current through auctions on Ebay or CPF buy/sell forum. Oh, and your last sentence sounds a little harsh. I'm a newbie and while I don't know what has happened, I would guess Peter have been trying to right the ship and it just didn't happen.

I just ordered another 2 Peak AAAs (brass) for $15 a pop... i may have gotten the last ones because it wouldn't let me by 3.

as far as size:

body diameter: arc: 0.500, peak 0.496
body length no head: 2.167, peak 2.164
head diameter: art: 0.496, peak 0.496
head length: arc, 0.678 peak 0.685
length w/o key tab: 2.493, peak 2.507

I'm pretty sure you didn't mean 14 thousandths of an inch shorter... in any event it's definitely an exact clone for size.. the knurling is different, and the material is different.

I don't know what the white ones are like.. peak does use different LEDs than ARC, but i only have a 'prototype' white so likely the light is substandard for their QA. I can highly recommend PEAK.. if they have any AAAs in-stock i'd probably get one over an ARC, much as I like the arc.

In my case. it's only a 'host' to put in a luxeon 2W solution so the LED is a moot point.

That was harsh? I don't want to start a holy war here, but what happened to first come first serve? Harsh is the fact I'm upset their customer service let me down for the first time in years, first time ever, and its the final taste I'll have in my mouth.

The Knife Works link and it works OK for me. Maybe if you try the main website and then navigate towards the Arc page? Edit: This post was made earlier today. As of 17:30 PST KnifeWorks is no longer offering the Arc. I updated my links (above) to reflect this.

The one in Germany works, I just didnt want to spend $185 for a LSHP. I got one of the last(September 15th, 2004 stamped on the packaging) AAA-P before Arc went belly up, I'll be happy with that.

I ordered an ARC LS from Pentagon Defense; hopefully they still had a few in stock at the time I placed my order.

Anyone know where I can get a twistie or a AA pack to go with it?

Well, it turns out that Pentagon Defense was out before I ordered. Just got a notice that they canceled my order. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif At least I have my 4+!

Andrew, the Peak prototypes use exactly the same metal parts as the Arc AAA and should be exactly the same size. The regular production, non-prototype Peak 1AAA uses different parts and are longer. They have a removable lanyard tab screw-in thingie that mates with a clip gizmo that IMO is not very interesting. But when you unscrew the tab, the light can stand on end.

Thanks Peter. I was actually after an ARC LS, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif but it's good to know that I can get a reasonable substitute for ARC AAAs from Peak. (I have one of their n-cell lights, and its very nice). Hopefully Peak's upcoming luxon lights will be a decent substitute for an ARC LS. But those are pretty big shoes to fill!
