i pretty much decided to get the olight t20 and the diffuser. but thougth i should try to find a store that carries a good selection and try to see what else is out there and what works best for with my camcorder.

sorry for such a stupid question but im pretty clueless about where to get flashlights. ive only bought like 3 flashlights in the last 10 years and they were regular ones at the local hardware store and a keychain light.

There are a lot of flashaholics in NYC. You could always see if you can meet up with a few.

Some chains carry some good lights:
Inova can be found in Target.
Surefire at Lowes, ****'s
Leatherman Serac, Photon, PrincetonTec, Petzl at EMS

My favorite place is Paragon Sports. They stock Inova and Surefire as well as a decent assortment of headlamps.

Most of the Chinese brands don't have any sort of B&M distribution deals. Your best bet is to order online. A few (Nuwai, mostly.. and some Fenix) are rebranded by Energizer and River Rock (Target) and Leatherman and a few others.

Iceberg Army Navy in SoHo has a good selection of Surefires, and some other brands. I saw the new 5.11 capacitor powered light there a week or so ago. They also have Inova (but way over priced), and some other brands I don't recall off the top of my head.

You can also try Tent and Trails. They have a wide selection of lights, including a lot of head lamps. Surefire is limited to five or six models, but they do have the new E1l, E2l and the L1. Don't go by the web site. I don't think they update it very often.

Try B&H Photo.

Paragon is by far my favorite :twothumbs A lot of lights and the staff rule. No real accessories though.

B&H is also really good and carry a lot of accessories that paragon doesnt.

There is some army & navy store right in SOHO that had an awesome selection but I forgot the name

Iceberg (the one Bullfrog is thinking of) has a great selection of Surefires, but the markup is considerable. I bought a G2L from them once to support the local guys, but it cost me $85. Paragon has Surefires at more reasonable prices. I love B&H because I'm into photography and they also carry Surefires (although I can't remember ever seeing them on display in the store). Eastern Mountain Sports has a great selection of headlamps, Princeton Tecs, and they even stock the Surefire G2 and G2L.

I'd inquired shiningbeam about it awhile back. Unfortunately, he doesn't do business store-front style. Only way to order is through his website.

Please continue in Monocrom's thread linked above. New additions/updates can be posted there - it is a useful reference. I'll close this thread.
