Where to get NiCd\'s cheap?

I need a few /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gifAA's for an mr-16 project. I've searched 'till I'm X-eyed. Seems they are all in the $2 range.
Anybody recomend a site/type? I'm interested in 900-1000mAh.

Could 2000mA NIMH AA handle a 1.5-2.5A draw? Or should I stick to NiCD.

I think NiMh are best around 1C, so 2amps for 2000mAh. They are best used in high drain devices...and those would probably be cheaper than NiCD. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What so ya think about charging? Can you still make a homemade charger for NiMh? If so say I do have a pack made up of 12 2000mA AA's, what V and mA should I charge them at and for how long, what delta V do I look for when full?
