The internals are identical, as well as the function. It's just a matter of which body style you prefer.

not quite. there are some subtle differences in the electronics - for example the low on the LD10 is lower than on the L1D. There is also a slightly different reflector.
Agreed that the biggest difference though is just the cosmetics.

It seems Fenix tweaked the LD20's output a little, to maximize runtime:
9 lumens (71 hours) ..... 47 lumens (13 hours) ..... 94 lumens (5 hours)
as compared with the L2D's output:
12 lumens (55 hours) ..... 53 lumens (10.5 hours) ..... 107 lumens (4 hours)
Turbo mode remained the same at 180 lumens for each light.
(The difference in lumens is visually negligible. The runtime gains seem well worth the tradeoff, IMO.)

I would not recommend the LD20...
The LD20 is about 5% brighter than the L2D, but it sacrifices about 20 minutes of runtime on high. According to a 2AA comparative review, the L2D has a more effective driver.

You will notice that the LD20 has better throw when compared to the L2D side by side. There is really not a lot of difference though and I prefer the LD20 for better ergonomics (at least in my opinion).
