Hi All,

I have been lurking around for a little while. I need a flashlight to carry around for work.

I will be using it for various activities, tracing conduit or wires up in a dropped ceiling, wiring up devices in a panel, walking into dark areas etc...

I like the clicky option for the ease of one hand use.

Would I like to get a Novatac/Surefire/RA yes, but that is not in the budget.

I was considering some of the DX/KD brands but decided it is probably better to spend a few extra $ and get a nicer quality light.

Here is the narrowed down list. Any recommendations on from this list or others I may have missed or should not have excluded?

I really don't want to go over $60 preferably less :)

In no particular order:

Olight 2008 T10
Lumapower Incendio V2
Fenix P2D
Fenix PD20
Nitecore EX10
JetBeam Jet-I Pro I.B.S 2.0
Eagletac P10C

Regards,

Chris

If you are liking the versatility of a Novatac or Ra and only want to spend $60 you really should be considering (here I go again) the LiteFlux LF3XT. Check out the old LED and Reviews sections' threads. We're all a bunch of very happy owners. The other lights you're considering are fine lights, too, but don't forget this one.

Geoff

P.S. Welcome to CPF.

All of those would work well.

I guess your choices depend on if you want customizability(Jetbeam IBS lights, and Nitecore), set modes (Fenix, Olight, and Lumapower lights), or simple 2 modes(Eagletac lights, and Fenix L1/2T V2.0).

:welcome:

One thing to consider is that you may get one of the lights you listed and get bit by the flashaholic bug and then you may want to get the light you wanted in the first place. If you were considering Novatac/Surfire/Ra, then I say go with what you wanted in the first place. A lot of people here, me included compromised a little, bought a light but then went ahead and bought the original one we wanted. A Ra Clicky EDC Executive for example is $40 more than your budget but it may save you money in the long run because you'll be satisfied that you got a better light. Paying over $100 for a light can be shocking at first but after you use it and appreciate its merits as both a tool and a toy you will look at it as an investment that makes your job or activities easier.

With your stated price point my vote goes to the LF3 XT or EX10.
Both of these lights seem to be real winners per the reviews on CPF.
I'm not taking anything away from the others on your short list as they all are good choices .

Really sounds like you could use a Zebralight tbh. Zebralight H30 (available with Q3-5A LED soon) if you prefer CR123 batteries.

All the lights you listed are good, and there are a few more goodies you are missing. If you let this thread long run enough you will get a post about how great each of these light are and what does that get you? At this point there is nothing but personal preference. Only you can decide, and you will decide wrong the first time around. I probably went through 20 or 30 lights before I found the ones I really like! (for now)

I would start by reading the CR123 shootoff thread by selfbuilt in the review section. And then reading the reviews section for each individual light.

If you want to base your buying on pure popularity than the EX10 will come in as the winner, but that doesn't mean that is the light for you. I personaly don't have or want one and yet its the most poplular (numbers sold) CR123 light on CPF right now.

Hi, Goybar. I too have had a bit of a lurk and like you probably use the reviews section etc. I'm developing flashoholism, but so far have only bought 3 lights. Nitecore Extreme, Eagletac T10LC2 and an Ultrafire shiny thing. Since Christmas!
All your choices are good. Take into account that if you are working you may need it to tailstand,or to hold it in your teeth. Also many high output lights are TOO bright for close work so need to be adjusted quickly and not through a series of modes.
If, and I mean if :whistle:I was going to buy yet another, it would be a Liteflux LF3XT.

ITP C9 Approx $40

Or that!! Haven't seen one of these before. Nice. Oh dear not again.

The Eagletac...this would be my choice....very well thought out light. great design...

Fenix PD20

If it rides on Powernoodle's belt, shouldn't everyone want one? :p

One of the advantages of the Fenix P* series is the multi battery support. You can different battery tubes so you can run 1AA, 1CR123, or 2AA. That's the reason I still keep mine around. Fenix also has the best efficiency of any light I've seen. Longest runtimes at a given output. There are reasons to hate it though like strobe and SOS in the sequence.

I use mine as a 2AA light but keep the CR123 body with an extra tailcap and battery cap close by as a spares carrier.

Here is my recommendation from top to bottom...

Ra Lights Clicky Executive or Tactical - By far one of the best EDC lights in the market.

Nitecore EX10 - Very good build and you have control over your lumen settings.

Fenix PD20 - Good light and very good lumens.

JetBeam Jet-I Pro I.B.S 2.0 - JetBem in general has a very good line of Lights and for the price you can beat it I like the programmable futures.

You listed some very good flashlights but I have a few suggestions I'd like you to consider. Chances are you will be buying more flashlights in the future if you enjoy this hobby and can justify them for use on the job. I have a couple Olight T-20's and they are well made, strong, bright, etc. I was going to buy the Olight T-10 08', but decided to give DealExtreme a try and get it out of my system. I bought the Ultrafire A1 (very similar to the Olight T-10) and the Ultrafire C3 (runs on single or double AA, or 14500battery). The nice things about these flashlights are there low cost and brightness. Downside so far would be no mode memory making it necessary to click through modes to get to the one you want. I use mine everyday for a few minutes and I'm not suggesting they would hold up to heavy use, but for the money they are bright and fun with decent run time. Knowing what I know, if I was you I'd buy the OLight T-10, but also buy the flashlights I mentioned along with two sets of RCR123A's and charger from DX along with a couple 14500's and charger. Live a little and appreciate the difference in what your money can buy.

I own a couple EDC one cell 123 lights, in fact all my lights are one cell, I own a large amount of the lights in your list, I can tell you the EX10 is a great light, but it has his crowd, some people like the UI others don't. The Novatac is built like a tank, excellent light all the way, although at first you feel like you need a bachelor's degree to operate it. But to contribute to the post the next light I'm buying is a Liteflux LF3XT, same features as in the Novatac but without the $189 MSRP. I've been looking and this looks like a winner, also slightly larger than the EX10. The only thing I dislike about my EX10 is it's size, I have big hands and usually my hand covers a piece of beam, so it isn't always perfectly round. My next light will be the Liteflux, it is definetly worth looking

" tracing conduit or wires up in a dropped ceiling, wiring up devices in a panel"

your screwed already :) you can't see color coded wiring with a "white" led light, it will just drive you insane :)
there isnt enough total spectrum.
you need special added bits of red light at least , like some great modders have added to a multiled arsenol (pink panther), or at LEAST a "warm" led, or a high CRI, or a RGB :) or a nice incadescent.

now if its all just black white and green, you might get away with it, but we already know it isnt, its some dang colored stripe that is already barely visable, that under the different lighting turns from red to orange, then there you are pulling the bosses cat 5 out , when you thought you had the alarm :)

but, as said above, you get one of these and you will surely catch the flashoholic disease, and spend $$$ on something class 1 like an Ra!
