hi all,

could you recommend GU10 halogen 50W (110V) replacement? pls
I'm tired replacing halogen GU10 bulbs every 3 - 6 months and want to get LED based.
Which one would you recommend to get?

I tried one from walmart 1W multi LED and it isn't as bright as even 35W halogen and costs about $14.

Is this good CREE based http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15070
also I see some @ebay like those

what do you think?

tnx.

If you read TooManyGizmo's link you will find there are no LED bulbs to replace halogens at the same light level at a reasonable price.
It does not matter if the bulb base is E26/E27, E12, B22, MR16, or GU10.

A 50W incandescent bulb produces 700 lumens, a halogen even more.

Your 1st link 1*3W Cree is 100 lumens actual. Equivalent to 7 watt halogen. Or 1/8 your current bulbs.

Your 2nd link 3*1W Luxeon? is 90 lumens actual. Equivalent to 6.5 watt halogen. Or 1/8 your current bulbs.

Neither bulb has CSA nor UL nor ETL listing for safety, required if you want to use the bulbs in North America.

BTW if the halogens are in recessed ceiling fixtures LED and CFLs may not do any better. They tend to overheat in enclosed fixtures and die. Or even start a fire and burn down your house.

thanks for the info.
I need directional light - about 20 to 45 degree only
current halogen bulbs are getting very hot - you can't touch it.
however, 700 lum vs 100 lum it's another story :mecry:

....And an Evolux LED bulb puts out.....1000?

While I'm hardly a fan of LED retrofits, let's be fair to all products.

The problem is not with LED technology...the problem is trying to cram them into legacy fixtures and formats.

AFAIK The Evolux is not available in GU 10.
I did mention it in the other thread as the OP was using E26 track lighting.
BTW I did not find a single LED bulb in the newfangled energy star GU 24 format.

blasterman, stop whining about legacy fixtures. design a new energy star LED fixture that meets code and submit it to the powers that are considering alternatives to the good old Edison bulb. You could become the 'Bill Gates' of the new green lighting industry.
You can not expect 300 million Americans and 30 million Canadians to design and build their own LED setup. They are going to go to a lighting store, buy something they like the looks of and hire an electrician to install and wire it. The CFL industry is coming out with GU 24 fixtures and bulbs.
We need someone to do something similar for LED.

Is there a fluorescent GU10 bulb? It's better than halogen right?
not that know of any fluorescent in this size
and you'll not get as many lum from fluorescent as from halogen
only good (CREE or Seoul) 3+W LED can come close to 35W halogen

Fluorescent GU10 Bulb, you mean GU10 CFLs bulbs ? Yes, there do have such bulbs. Yes, for most users, these bulbs are better than halogen. GU10 CFLs bulbs have longer life said to be 6000~8000hrs, which is far more strong than 1000hrs halogens, yet never runs that hot.

BTW, fluorescent as well as CFLs do have better lumen per watt. So the light output never be a problem.

For Led bulbs, that's correct, 3x1W high power Leds could be a good replacement for 35W halogen. You can check the customer feedbacks of GU10 Led bulbs on Amazon, that's very usefull i think :sssh:
