i know about the zebras . and im saving for one but are there any cheaper aa regulated lights?

Just use eneloops and lithium primaries and the voltage shouldn't drop as much during the life of the batteries. Alkaleaks sag a lot more under heavier loads.

They are pretty good up till about half an amp but go downhill fast at heavier loads than that. I use them only in throwaway stuff mostly that leakage isn't a big thing and not worth putting a lithium primary in or a nimh battery.
The first time I used nimh batteries I was sold on them even though up till LSD versions you couldn't count on them more than a month or two to not be half dead.

The streamlight protac lights have pretty good regulation, but they're priced similar to the Zebra.

Check on Fenix e12 v2? I do not have it but I have e20 v2, which uses the same design and optics. I like it
