This is a tough decision. Passed the 2 yr upgrade so get new bonuses/credits on Verizon. Looking at upgrading a pair of cellphones to a smart phone, and these seem the top offerings. Hard to sort out which is best....leaning slightly towards Imagio

  • HTC Imagio $99
  • HTC Touch Pro2 $99
  • Motorola Droid ($99, but get 2nd free)
  • Palm Pre Plus ($99 but 2nd free)

I browse CPF quite a bit in my iPhone. Especially when on the can or standing in line. Pick a phone with good browser support if this is important to you. Maybe try each out in the store or find a friends to check out.

I've had several phones over the years through work. The current one I'm on is the HTC Touch Pro 2. Very solid and big screen. If you're wanting a Windows based phone, that's the one to get. If you're open minded on the OS, then Iphones and Blackberrys are great too. If it wasn't for work buying me the phone, I'd probably vote for the Iphone just because of the apps available. I'm not crazy about the monthly service charges that come with an Iphone. So, it really depends on what you are expecting out of your phone.

Good service
Large screen
Availability of apps
Compatibility with work email
Durability
Comfort
Ease of use
Availability of accessories
Proven reliability

etc..... Good luck.

If you want or need a keyboard, go with the Touch Pro 2, its keyboard is excellent. If you don't type that much, save the heft and get the Imagio. Windows Mobile is the proven technology. ;)

A good friend of mine swears by the touch pro 2 ...
Lots of apps for the Windows Mobile ...

He uses it to check all of our Burgess website changes to ensure we are "mobile friendly" ...

I just discovered the Motorola devour coming to Verizon ...

Not sure if it is what you are looking for , haven't touched one yet ..

I compared a few at the verizon store plus looked at online reviews with user feedback and the Droid is the one I picked - though I am not eligible for upgrade just yet. The driod has faster processing and operation than the HTC next to it that was half price (at the time). The HTC I saw (not one of the two you have listed, but I don't remember it's name) had a lot of short battery life complaints. Look at the online user reviews for the models you are considering. I also liked that the Droid has a full keyboard that does not take up screen space.

Lux, try Cnet.com and click cellphones and search verizon picks(?). The editor reviews and most importantly the user reviews can help you quite alot. Unfortunately, I am planning on going back to Verizon this summer in order to help my mother out. The thing is I am so use to using this unlocked, jailbroken Iphone 1st gen (T-mobile)for the past couple of months.

One of my co-workers has a Droid w/ Verizon and it looks pretty nice.

Whatever you get, you will find things you love and hate.

I defefcted from verizon to get an iPhone. I've been very happy that I did. I never got a verizon phone to interact with my mail servers properly. The iphone is like a very capable miniature computer. When it has a chance to mature, the Droid and it's cousins should become as good.

But that's not what you asked, was it? :)

I would also lean towards the iPhone, but there's regions my wife travels that tmobile and AT&T don't have coverage, including spending time in Mariposa/Yellowstone CA--and based on other members in her group, only Verizon works there.

I have spent a couple hours looking at these sites, and it is really hard to sort out pro's and con's.

Generally speaking, Apple has the best phone and Verizon has the best service. As Apple is locked into AT&T (with the worst service), you have to pick one or the other. I love Apple stuff and am a Verizon customer.

Don't know but I've heard Verizon might be getting the Nexus one at the end of March...might be worth the wait to see.

Verizon has spotty service here in NW IL , so , I had to switch to US Cellular .
I am not a fan of Blackberry , so , the Touch Pro 2 ( which is greatly improved over the other HTC Touch phones , btw ..) is my only option for smarty phone ...

The I phone is sweet , but , the carrier has very poor coverage in my normal stomping grounds ...

I am jealous of the Verizon phones ...
the Motorola Droid looks very nice ....
I also like what I have read about the Motorola BackFlip ...
The Motorola Devour has real possibilities ...

Wish Verizon had better coverage here ... with a son on a transplant list , I can't risk being in a "drop zone" and missing " the call" ....

Lux , at least you can fondle all of these models without getting into trouble !:naughty:

Best of Luck (and health) to your Son.

Hope that everything goes well for him.

I would be happy just watching the Victoria Secret models changing! LOL!

I have to go over to local Verizon store and see more about all these models. Probably get stuck with some stupid fat kid that doesn't know much about them.

Get the Motorola Droid. Hands down, two :twothumbs.

I've had an HTC 6800 (Windows Mobile 6.0) AKA: The Brick lol... an HTC Touch Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1, which was a little better, but not much) and now I have a Motorol Droid:naughty:, I promise, you won't be dissapointed. I'm not trying to knock Windows Mobile here, but Microsoft has a long way to go before I'll buy another Windows Mobile based phone, in fact, if you will notice, they seem to be phasing Windows Mobile phones out IMO.
I just thought I had a smartphone until I got a Droid:poke:.

Seriously though, the Motorola Droid is the closest to an Iphone you can get. BTW, I'm on the Verizon network as well. Just about any app you can think of, voice guided, turn by turn GPS (no need for a Garmin with this phone, but you will need it plugged into a power point while using this feature), Google maps built in to the phone (works just like Google Earth on a desktop) the browser speed is a lot faster on the Droid, the phone doesn't freeze up like my Windows phones did and it's just all around a FAR superior phone IMHO. It might be a little learning curve for you if you're not used to a smartphone, but it's worth it.
