Just as the title states, which Solarfoce drop-in would be the best choice to be paired with a single, unprotected 18650? I have a source for a lot of laptop cells and will be placing an order for an L2P on Friday from either ITC-Shop or Lighthound.

I am leaning towards the low voltage (.8-.42V) 3-mode. I am wondering if there would be a problem running an R5 or the new P7 which state they are 3v minimum voltage. I don't want to have a dim, flickering led.

I prefer throw over flood. With that being said, I will be purchasing a MPP-1 head around Christmas along with an 18650 extension and a pair of PROTECTED 18650's, leaving the drop-in to eventually go into another L2 body purchased next year some time.

I did notice on the ITC site for their low voltage 3-mode, they say "Solarforce R&D driver circuit to protect Li-ion battery from over-discharging". Does this drop-in really have over-discharge protection?

I just visited Salesforce site and I could not be able to find such claim.

The drop-in specified is not a good choice for unprotected lithium-ion.By the time your battery reaches .8 volts it will have been permanently damaged if not totally wrecked. :poof: The drop-in in question is probably meant for 2x nimh AA.

For a single unprotected Li-Ion you want a low voltage cut-off of 2.7 volts or higher.
