I want something that i can take camping/hiking and just general use. It must at least have 3modes High/Medium/ and a LOW LOW (20Lum).
Tint = 4000K - 6000 k something on the more neutral side would be nice so around about 5000k tint.
This is going to be my workhorse light i.e USED for everything possible.

Malkoff only does single output, so that's out for you. I'd say check out vinhnguyen's selling threads over on Marketplace and see if there's something there that meets your fancy. If not, PM him and see what he might be able to cook up for you.

From my experiences with my lights (although I don't own very many) you will want a nice bright high that you will end up using only in short bursts - 400lm or more; a medium that is bright enough to walk at night but not so bright that you burn through batteries like crazy - around 100lm; and a low that won't kill your eyes when doing close up night tasks like rifling through a pack for a Clif bar at 2am in the back country - definitely 20lm or less. Strobe is useless, SOS is useless. Some people like having some extra brightness modes in between the 3, but I don't know of any drop ins that have more than 3 brightness modes except for some infinitely variable ones I've seen on DX.com, but I don't think I'd use any of the parts from there in an EDC setup.

I've done that particular trail twice now in the middle of the night. Only the first time was in the crazy pouring rain in October, and it was definitely challenging. Remembering back now - it was a few years ago - I think it was actually about an 8 hour trek in.

It's mostly downhill on the way in, but trust me - down does not mean easy!

Going downhill is defiantly harder than going uphill, when it's wet and slippery it takes 2* the effort, working out where to place each foot next takes up all your concentration. + being tired/fatigued carrying 16kg wear's you down like balsa on a beltsander.

I defiantly don't want anything flashlight related from DX at the moment,

Also what is your EDC at the moment. I'm looking at the olight s10 baton (meets my under $50 requirement) :D

TBH I haven't really made the effort to look for a good quality, small EDC for myself. Although I really should because I want one to keep in the car as well as around the house. I actually have a DX sku#112816 that I've been using for around the house type stuff. It's by no means great, but it was cheap and it gets the job done. Also I liked the look of it.

I have a Zebralight H600w headlamp on the way... depending on how I like it, I may decide to buy more of their products. They have a few AA and 123A based lights that are small and have lots of brightness settings. Maybe the SC80? I'll see how it goes with the H600w first.
