I've serious concerns about Arc's health and ability to regain strength. This is due to my lack of knowlege about their operations and my bewilderment that the AAA and LS are no longer produced. The new Arc4 is too expensive for many who would, otherwise, buy an LS or AAA.

Hopefully there's something positive going on that I'm not aware of.

From my understanding, the production of the AAA (as well as the AA) is on hold until the bugs are worked out. The ARC4 is a replacement of the LSH series.

The LSH series should be available through this year.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've just recieved my Arc 4+ rev.2 back from repairs in less than the 2 week turnaround. I am at work so it is hard to concentrate on all of the features but the switch feels much more responsive.
Last week I recieved 2 AA's, check the Arc website they may still be available, and they both work fine and soon will be given as gifts.
I guess this means Peter Gransee and crew are doing O.K.?

No?

PUUULEEEZE....
Any company that produces a good product where demand outpaces supply by a wide margin will NEVER go under.
YMMV

Re: re:Will Arc Survive? Please cut garbage posts like

I don't think this is a garbage post... It's a legit question. It seems like Arc is having more than one legal issue going on. I think bugs = legal issues... FYI the forum is a place to discuss our concerns not give others a hard time that have concerns... I agree with AlphaTea.. In theory this is true as long as the company 'plays by the rules'

Re: re:Will Arc Survive?

I sure hope you are right because I'd like to buy more Arc products - they are the best that I own.

Re. "garbage posts" this is on everybody's mind so why not discuss it? I'm seeking reassurance that Arc will be around. I'm trying to get the real picture which isn't too clear, right now.

I think this is more concerning than when 'older' CPFers complain. Maybe some of this people just signed in for this reason. So it must really hurt them. But we do a good job of supporting Peter here, at least that is my impression.

i dont know what the big deal is, almost everything made by ARC is absolutly perfect!!! and if something is wrong, then it gets fixed, right away, WITH no hassle. peter is glad to fix a problem. out of all the purchases i have made thru my life, the purchases from ARC are a no brainer!!! keep up the terrific work peter and everyone at ARC, god bless

Re: Arc's strength and "garbage" posts:

Yes, Virginia, Arc will survive. At least until its founder gets fed up with the hassle of pursuing his dream of the perfect EDC. This appears to be no time soon.

I personally don't feel that threads such as this add much good to the board. The fact is that there would be very little of such speculation if Peter Gransee did not have such an open relationship with the CPF as he works to maintain.

Every company has growing pains. We on the CPF are basically a bunch of fanatics (not that this is a bad thing), and we are overreacting to bad news: Arc4 QC issues, AAA circuit board issues, disgruntled ex-employee issues. There is no intelligent reason for AAAs selling for such a premium on eBay. It's all fear that Arc is spiraling down the toilet.

Arc is not. All that is happening is that the company is enjoying three years worth of frustrating fecal matter in a three-month time frame. The commitment to quality and customer service are all there still, and have never departed. The products will come back. It's only Peter G's commitment to quality that creats this delay. He doesn't want to send out stuff that's not up to his standards of excellence. (Please don't ask me how so many Rev2 lights went out needing tweaks-- it's the exception that proves the rule.)

Peter will slay these dragons, one at a time, and will continue to do what he's already shown that he does so well.

We do him, and ourselves, no favors at all to get lathered up in this manner.

This is not the first time that this has happened. I waited what seemed like an eternity to purchase my first ARC LS.

It was an LS "second" and it came with a 123a pack, a 1AA pack, and a 2AA pack.

I paid like 70 dollars for it, and waited at least six months before I could even purchase one, as there were none to be had.

Peter was working on perfecting certain aspect of the light.

Now that I have owned several more Luxeon Stars, I realise why this was a second, it it was because the LS had a hint of green in the light (not this puke green, but a light green blush, hardly noticable).

You kids today, . . . In my day, there was ONE place to buy a Luxeon Star, and that was from ARC. There were no other sources of a Luxeon Star commecally available!

First of all, Jayflash has a legitimate concern, and there is no harm in posting such a concern to share with his Internet friends. One of the attributes that so many Arc owners love about Peter, is his openness and willingness to hide no secrets. Surely we should not fault Jayflash for reciprocating. In life, there is good and bad, and it is beneficial to hear both sides. It is obvious that many of you Arc-faithfuls are not reasonable enough to accept the "possiblity" that Arc may not succeed in the capacity in which Peter would want. Arc-buyers make up a very small percentage of the flashlight owner population, compared to companies like SF, SL, PT, Dorcy, Eveready, etc. Common business sense tells me that Peter must raise his prices and not cut any corners on his fabulous products to make it work. I think many of you are SO dedicated to this man, that you are not willing to listen to the un-biased thoughts of other people. The word "fear" was even mentioned in a post. What is wrong with us: We have men & women at war, wondering if they will ever see there spouse or children ever again, and we are all uptight about whether or not some gadget will be available anymore. Folks, IT IS A FLASHLIGHT AND NOTHING MORE. Perhaps we need to rethink our priorities. I am not saying we shouldn't have love for our hobbies, but "fear", come on. I'm sure I am going to hear it now.

Surely the poster of the thread deserves the same "courtesy"
as you advocate Peter and Arc deserve. I thought the forum was a place where views and comments could be aired, nobody has to agree with anything that is posted but to call for courtesy for one person while describing another members comments as garbage is not right.
The poster of the origonal thread didn't make any derogatory comments about Arc, all he did was air his thoughts. Not a discourtesy in my book.

Jayflash, I've asked that question too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously though, I am not a fortune teller. This means I don't know the correct yes/no response to that question.

However, I can provide some evidence for why I am optomistic:

- Been through tough times before, still here
- We have great customers
- Strong demand for our products
- We know our stuff and have exciting plans for the future
- Legal issues are being solved slowly but surely
- We keep learning at as fast as we can
- Good group of close supporters
- Each mistake is one less mistake we will (hopefully) have to make in the future /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

To tell you the truth, a business is never completely secure. That just does not exist. But having a, "more secure" business is preferred because it frees up time to concentrate on your core compentencies.

I have not seen the new Arc4 battery packs/switch yet, but Mut just got his new packs back and reports are, they work GREAT!!!

It's a shame that a minor switch glitch from brand new product is overshadowing such a excellent product.

Also all the negative posts flying around, look at where most of the negative posts are coming from.... Newbies with under 10 posts.

I'm treating those comments exactly like I'm purchasing something. I give respect to those that have earned it. So who do you think I'm going to believe? Someone that has a thousand+ posts or someone with under 10 posts?

I know who I'm sending my money to.

Perhaps we newbies havn´t yet learned that Peter and
Arc are untouchable and that it is forbidden to ask
qestions about them in this forum .
Sorry for that !

"Newbie" here. ARC = Excellence. Keep up the great work. It's nice to know that my 8 ARC flashlights have helped the little guy; because they take the time to make it right the first time; every new product or business has bugs. Peter G. appears to be holding his own, addressing any issues AND standing buy his products. Very seldom do you hear of the business problems in public. It's very refreshing that P.G. lets us know what is going on with a product we believe in. It sounds like Peter is learning business through the school of hard knocks. From what I read here at the CPF, he stands by his product. We can support the [little guy], and give him pride in ARC by BUYING more ARCS' I'll stand by ARC as long as Peter Grensee stands by his company. P.G. keep on it. Regards.

Thank you, Peter, for your response. I, too, operated a small business for several years. Like you, I tried to give my customers top notch service and attention. I succeeded in that attempt but, ultimately, had to close my doors. It was my fault for trying to start up a new, unfamiliar business, underfunded, in a depressed economy (1980), with established competition. While I enjoyed two years of profitable returns, it did not last.

I've also learned, too many times, that being an above average, reliable and well qualified employee is no guarantee of retaining one's job.

It's with this background that I inquire about Arc. Arc may do everything right but fail due to insurmountable problems. I hope your difficulties are diminishing but the cards are always stacked against a young enterprize.

I truly hope you succeed because you make (mostly) what I want.

There's not a thing wrong with asking questions as long as one shows respect toward others and avoids negative innuendos. Your comment that ARC is untouchable does not make sense; the fact that Mr Gransee is open to innovative ideas and mature critique is endlessly demonstrated in this forum and his product line reflects this.
