windows update not working...

when i try to update the microsoft stuff, an error message comes up, saying:

it was working ok on when you were on dialup?

What OS are you using? Are there any other user login accounts on your computer?

i'm using on a wireless network, and since installing that some of the logging things have been different (i set it so that i need to type in my password when i reboot or such). and sincei nstalling cable, i've needed to click on "owner" before typing the password, rather than just typing.

not sure if tht has anything to do with it or not, but it's possible.

Sounds like my house too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I don't know about your password thing though, my computer connects automatically to the network when I boot up or anything. How did you set up that password feature? Is it from your router, or on your computer?

it's on my computer.

whenever i reboot, it needs a password.
i can also lock my computer by hitting "window" + l.

you set it up in the control panel somewhere i believe...can't really recall.

i didn't mean to say that that was the problem, just that it's changed, probably as a result of the same problem.

What kind of hardware are you using? Are you going through a router or sharing the connection through another computer?

using a linksys router. i'm on the "wireless b" connection or something like that.

Win XP? Try this:

Start>Run>Regedit

Make your way through this registry tree..

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate.

Double Click DisableWindowsUpdateAccess in the right side of the window and change the value to 0.

Give that a try... if you have xp home edition.

you login as an administrator?

go to your Internet Settings in control panel, in "Security" tab, click the "default level" button then retry.

here is another suggestion:

control panel- administrative tools- services

find the IPSEC Service, if it's "started", try stop it by select "stop" from right click menu, then retry.
