Any opinions to this light?
They talk about 300 Lumen for this light, can it be?
 
That's a good question. According to 3AX review in Flashlight Reviews, the 4AX scores 6000 in throw and 12,000 in overall output. Keep in mind that the 3AX uses a 9V lamp rated at 220 lumens.

Wolf Eyes also makes a 12V lamp, which is used in the 3AX [corrected from 4AX] and its nonfocusable stablemate, the M90X. That lamp is rated at 300 lumens, so you'd expect it to earn scores that were perhaps 30 percent higher. How, then did the 12V M90X [corrected from 4AX] score? 6000 in throw, 12,000 in overall output...the exact same as the 9V lamp!

What's going on? I can only hope that QuickBeam (at Flashlight Reviews) was sent the old 12V (195-lumen) lamp by mistake. The only way to know would be to check the markings on the lamp. In the old lamps, WOLF-EYES used a long dash; in the new (brighter) lamps, WOLF-EYES uses a short hyphen. You can see the difference in the side-by-side photo found in the 3AX review.

QuickBeam, can you tell us how your lamp is marked? If it's the short hyphen, would you care to speculate why the 220- and 300-lumen lamps rated equally bright? Or why Microfire's 12V lamp scored 50 percent higher overall output? If it's the long dash, please get a hold of the correct, new lamp assembly and report on your revised findings!

Or could it be that the M90 specs table was created (using Save As...) from the 3AX review, and the numbers never got changed?
 
I can't tell the difference between the 195 and the 300 lamp. The markings are the same. No hyphens on either one. As far as light output, again, I can't tell the difference.
 
I just tested at 2 meters. I can't tell any difference in size of spot or spillbeam.
I did see the difference in the lamps tho. The bulb in the 300 lumen is a lot smaller than the 195.
 
on one of the pages I was reading- the specs for the 9V lamp was listed as "220 bulb lumens" so maybe the only thing that has really changed, is that wolf eyes is now rating their lamps in "bulb lumens" rather than torch lumens- 30% would be right in the ballpark of the change, and we would see no significant improvements. any ideas?
 
I can see a difference in the 9 volt. Brighter and a solid spillbeam. The old lamp had rings in the spillbeam and the spot wasn't round.

Still, I can't see any difference in the 12 volt lamp, except for a better, more solid spillbeam.
Kinda disappointed in the brightness not being any better.

I think you'r on to something. According to QuickBeam's 3AX review, output in the 9V series is up about 20 percent. Unfortunately, his old numbers are gone, leaving no way to see the actual improvement that he measured.

Regarding the 12V lamps, I hope that a longer-range comparison would reveal an obvious difference. If it doesn't, shame on Wolf Eyes.

Has the 4AX mor output as an TL3 ?

Old 3AX review:

Updated 3AX review:

Overall Output ~ 12000 (120.00)

With an overall output index of 120, it now ranks 20% higher than the TL-3! If we assume that the TL-3 is a 175-lumen light, the correlation is right on the money.

Good news! As explained in this thread, the 12V figures were typos. QuickBeam has corrected them. The new numbers (which now appear in his M90X review; you may have to refresh the page) are 8,000 throw, 17,000 overall output!

Mike Seward of Pacific Tactical: Would you be so kind as to test this lamp (or the new 12V D36 lamp assembly) with two 150A rechargeable cells + 1 123A primary cell and let us know if the lamp survives? Even for me, who shuns primary cells, this combo would be enticing, since it would allow me to run the 12V lamp at less than $2 an hour.

Also test the Microfire M4 this way.
