That's a good question. According to
3AX review in Flashlight Reviews, the 4AX scores 6000 in throw and 12,000 in overall output. Keep in mind that the 3AX uses a 9V lamp rated at 220 lumens.
Wolf Eyes also makes a 12V lamp, which is used in the 3AX [
corrected from 4AX] and its nonfocusable stablemate, the M90X. That lamp is rated at 300 lumens, so you'd expect it to earn scores that were perhaps 30 percent higher. How, then did the
12V M90X [corrected from 4AX] score? 6000 in throw, 12,000 in overall output...the exact same as the 9V lamp!
What's going on? I can only hope that QuickBeam (at Flashlight Reviews) was sent the old 12V (195-lumen) lamp by mistake. The only way to know would be to check the markings on the lamp. In the old lamps, WOLF-EYES used a long dash; in the new (brighter) lamps, WOLF-EYES uses a short hyphen. You can see the difference in the side-by-side photo found in the 3AX review.
QuickBeam, can you tell us how your lamp is marked? If it's the short hyphen, would you care to speculate why the 220- and 300-lumen lamps rated equally bright? Or why
Microfire's 12V lamp scored 50 percent higher overall output? If it's the long dash, please get a hold of the correct, new lamp assembly and report on your revised findings!
