If there is enough interest for this new converter which I call the Super Micro converter , SMC for short, a special run for CPFer's may be possible. The width of the board is 6.5mm, thickness 1mm, input voltage is 1.2v to 1.5v and puts out 150ma to the LS. Can be run even from a single LR44 button cell. Who knows whats possible, a 1 AAAA LS flashlight or a REAL keychain LS powered flashlight.

Getting serious now... so it runs the 1 watt at 1.5 volts? Is that sufficent?
 
Hello IlluminatingBikr,

Its the very same converter used in the Micro Illuminator except its much much smaller. Some of the Micro Illuminators were putting out over 200 lux at 1 meter but the bin number of the LS had a lot to do with this as well. So even if the LS is driven from a 1.5 volt source using the SMC its still pretty bright, much brighter than a 5mm Nichia.

I'm sorry about the link. Thank you for your help iddibhai. I don't have a set price for the SMC yet. First, I have to find out if people are interested in this converter. I have to warn you that the price may be a bit steep due to a couple of custom components that were necessary in making this converter a reality plus extreme difficulty soldering these components. The maximum input voltage is 1.65 volts and if this voltage is exceeded, you will let the magic smoke out of the transistor. Combining or piggy backing two SMC's will not put out 300ma. It may put out around 200ma since both converters will only share each others load.

That board certainly is interesting, but I think I would want a ballpark figure on the price. Your use of "steep" doesn't sound too promising.
 
Can you get the Vin limit up to 1.8 volts are so? People are going to want to put the in some AA lights with L91's.
